Sounds good and I thought it would be just the ticket. But I found that a regular boresighter or the old fashioned eyeballing down the bore to be just as effective.
I have found that initial sighting in at 25 yds. to be just as fast and effective as boresighting.

I don't find them any more effective than my BSA that I hang on the end of my barrels. In bright outdoor light it is very difficult to see the laser. A 25 ft didtance to hang a target can be a challenge and you will also need a stable platform to set the rifle on.

I prefer the optical collimator over the laser. My Bushnell bore sighter can be used on the dining room table with no concerns about stray laser light hitting my kids in the eye. Also, the optical collimator can be re-mounted after your rifle is sighted in, and the location of the crosshairs on the grid recorded for a quick double check later on.
