RE: Winchester,Ruger,or Remington
All of the major manufacturers make pretty good rifles. A Winchester with the pre-'64 style action is an excellent rifle that will last many years if you take care of it. I own two winchesters along with a browning and a ruger. I also own two remington shotguns, but none of their rifles. My winchester .30-06 is a plain jane "Ranger" model with no frills, but when I first got it I had a friend who is a 1000 yard competetitor help me sight it in. After putting about 4 rounds through it he handed it back and told me not to ever sell it unless it was to him. It will really shoot some tight groups if I do my part, and it is just a "cheapo". However, as the other guys said, find one that feels comfortable to you. (and your wallet)
IMO, Ruger usually makes the most gun for the money, but I dont like the styling on some of their rifles. I love the look of Weatherbys, but the Mark V's cost an arm and a leg, and the Vanguards are made in Japan by Howa and their fit/finish/styling leave me cold. |
RE: Winchester,Ruger,or Remington
I prefer Winchester. If you like remingtons push feed, find a post-64 winchester. If you prefer a Mauser style action, the pre-64 action will suit you fine. Both feature feild strippable bolts, three position safetys, ( 1, trigger block, bolt block. 2, Trigger lock, open bolt. 3. Fire) and good pointability.

I cant imagine not being with my model 70 featherweight [:o]

RE: Winchester,Ruger,or Remington
All three make good bolt guns, but for the cost i think ruger makes a sweet gun, very accurate, dependable, tough, what else could you ask for?

RE: Winchester,Ruger,or Remington
I think you cant go wrong with any of the 3 but I am pretty partila to RUge myself

RE: Winchester,Ruger,or Remington
If you are considering a supergrade you must be looking for
quality. I would also take a look at Sako and Weatherby. Great guns for not too much more. Take a good look at the whole wall and see which one fits you best. |
RE: Winchester,Ruger,or Remington
Hey, can anyone comment specifically on the Winchester coyote rifle, say, in the .308?! Quality, trigger, accuracy, etc.

RE: Winchester,Ruger,or Remington
We are so blessed in America to have such a large choice for firearms. I have owned Ruger, Winchester and Remington’s. Out of all of them I would have to say that the Winchester was the best built and the best design. The Remington BDL I had was nice but I was never comfortable with the safety. To many people with lawsuits on that damn safety. And don’t let anyone give you Bull about the safety issue being an anti hunting thing.
Real life long hunters have been hurt or even killed over this safety. Just type in "Remington Safety Problems” into any search engine and you will get a load full. Try it. Winchester’s safety is foolproof. Ruger even went to the Winchester’s safety concept. Rugers has a reputation as being the most rifle for the bucks. I would not argue with that statement. You get an honest rifle with a set of Ruger rings. Most come on sale in the Fall for under 400.00 $ in most any caliber. I think the dark horse in all this is the Savage. There new Accu-Triger is said to put the other rifles to shame. The Savage 114 Ultra is a nice looking Walnut stocked rifle. You may want to look one over. I would also look at the Winchester Black Shadow. Hope this helps. Hornet Man |
