Winchester,Ruger,or Remington

hi there, why is it that you don't here to much about winchester rifles? Every one is always talking about there Rem's an Rugers!!!! I don't know what to get, it seems everyone has a remington ar they that much better then winchester? If I did get a winchester I'd probably get a classic super grade. the only remingtons I'v really looked at was a 700 BDL, haven't checked any rugers out though........any input would be great....:)

There is nothing wrong with Winchester. I am a die hard Remington fan but but winchester makes a great gun. I don't like there saftey but thats because I started out with a Remington! I not like the looks of the new stock on them!

All three companies make good rifles, but naturally there are some design and/or style differences (even within one company's line of rifles). It pretty much boils down to personal preference when finding the rifle that fits you best.

It's all about taste!

Get one of each and be happy!:D

I agree with SoArkRebel. What's important is your own taste...As long as you get the caliber you want and most importantly get a rifle that fits your build.

Nothing at all wrong with Winchesters. Remington also makes a nice rifle (except the 710), as does Ruger. But don't overlook Browning. And Savage too. They are not the prettiest rifles out there (the Ultra is nice) but the prices are very reasonable and I'm not the only one who thinks these rifles are one of the most accurate ones right out of the box. The new Accu-trigger is fantastic once you get used to it.

Check them all out and get the one that fits you best.

When I buy a new rifle I look to Winchester first then Ruger. Brownings are o.k. to, I just don't like their bolts. I have looked into a Rem M7 and all the ones I have handled (these are newer ones say 4 years old max) the quality was awful.[:'(]

It's all about personal preferance, kinda like when you are looking for a date at a dance.Their all built the same but some come in racier models.;)

I like winchester, but I own several of each, remington and rugers, never much cared for browning except the BAR and the BLR.

It is all how they fit, winchester fit better than the rest, plus I like the saftey for quick snap shots.

Don't know exactly why the Remingtons seem to be more popular (at least it seems that way). They have too many shortcomings for me. I've owned exactly one 700 and that's all I want to own. They're a very simply design and easy to work on, I guess that has a lot to do with their popularity. If they're not accurate out of the box, they can usually be made so quite easily. But I prefer other things in a rifle than just accuracy alone.

Sakos and pre-'64 Winchester model 70's are my cup of tea. Wouldn't mind having one of the new model 70's either, though I currently don't. I wouldn't mind having a Ruger either, but I'd have to do something about the trigger.

All of the major manufacturers make pretty good rifles. A Winchester with the pre-'64 style action is an excellent rifle that will last many years if you take care of it. I own two winchesters along with a browning and a ruger. I also own two remington shotguns, but none of their rifles. My winchester .30-06 is a plain jane "Ranger" model with no frills, but when I first got it I had a friend who is a 1000 yard competetitor help me sight it in. After putting about 4 rounds through it he handed it back and told me not to ever sell it unless it was to him. It will really shoot some tight groups if I do my part, and it is just a "cheapo". However, as the other guys said, find one that feels comfortable to you. (and your wallet)
IMO, Ruger usually makes the most gun for the money, but I dont like the styling on some of their rifles. I love the look of Weatherbys, but the Mark V's cost an arm and a leg, and the Vanguards are made in Japan by Howa and their fit/finish/styling leave me cold.

I prefer Winchester. If you like remingtons push feed, find a post-64 winchester. If you prefer a Mauser style action, the pre-64 action will suit you fine. Both feature feild strippable bolts, three position safetys, ( 1, trigger block, bolt block. 2, Trigger lock, open bolt. 3. Fire) and good pointability.

All three make good bolt guns, but for the cost i think ruger makes a sweet gun, very accurate, dependable, tough, what else could you ask for?

I wonder if it has anything to do with how great a Rem rifle shoots[:o]

If you are considering a supergrade you must be looking for
quality. I would also take a look at Sako and Weatherby. Great
guns for not too much more. Take a good look at the whole wall
and see which one fits you best.

Hey, can anyone comment specifically on the Winchester coyote rifle, say, in the .308?! Quality, trigger, accuracy, etc.

We are so blessed in America to have such a large choice for firearms. I have owned Ruger, Winchester and Remington’s. Out of all of them I would have to say that the Winchester was the best built and the best design. The Remington BDL I had was nice but I was never comfortable with the safety. To many people with lawsuits on that damn safety. And don’t let anyone give you Bull about the safety issue being an anti hunting thing.

Real life long hunters have been hurt or even killed over this safety. Just type in "Remington Safety Problems” into any search engine and you will get a load full. Try it. Winchester’s safety is foolproof. Ruger even went to the Winchester’s safety concept. Rugers has a reputation as being the most rifle for the bucks. I would not argue with that statement. You get an honest rifle with a set of Ruger rings. Most come on sale in the Fall for under 400.00 $ in most any caliber. I think the dark horse in all this is the Savage. There new Accu-Triger is said to put the other rifles to shame. The Savage 114 Ultra is a nice looking Walnut stocked rifle. You may want to look one over. I would also look at the Winchester Black Shadow. Hope this helps.

I think its alot like the Ford/Chevy/Dodge battle, you have your prefrences for one reason or another and you become dedicated to a certain brand. I prefer my remingtons, nothing against winchester or ruger. I just am not a big fan of the 3 position safety on the wins and rugers, plus i like the feel of the stock on a remington. Guess its all in what you like, they all do the same thing.
