Personally I like Marlins & Brownings. I'm a lever action fan as my s/n indicates & so cant much speak on bolt guns but of the ones I'v handled & shot it seems the Savage line has alot to offer for your $'s. That being said when I do get a bolt action it'll probably be a Winchester or Browning.

I like remington, however ithaca comes a close second for me. As for rifles i like the remington as well.

It just depends on what you like, even if you dont know what that is. Pick a bunch of them up and handle em, use the safety, see how they balance for you, dont go by the trigger because $100 will get you a top o the line trigger. I like Ruger #1's, Remington 600/660's. Winchester long action bolts. Alot of the guys say I got an old XXXXX and its the best, they're right buy an older gun (any make) and custom build it. The older rifles are better quality than the new. Savage is probably the best value out there. Just my opinion.
