Yeah those Ruger VT's POS don't shoot worth a darn. Mine is a .308. The Target was at 200 yds and from the lower bullet hole to upper right is 1.0", minus the bullet diameter (.308) a 3 shot group was sub .70" at 200 yds. Load was a Seirra GK 165 g BTSP,over 3031. Naw them Rugers shoot like, well you heard it before!
The only bad thing about the dayis my brother shot a smaller group with his6.5x55 Mauser[:@][:'(][:@] As you can tell bythe handle, I love the VT's, got another in .243, that will become a .260 custom.

MarkIIVT,

.35MOA! So typical of the crap that Ruger makes! I don't know how a company like Ruger can stay in business producing pathetic crap like our M77's!

BTW the loads were chrono'ed and had 3 shots average 2870 +/- 15 fps variation. Very satisfied with rifle and load!!

Yeah I M not so happy with the .243 POS either, it groups only down to .75" at 100 yds. I think a .260 would be awesome in that VT Line. Ruger Stumbled onto something with this fantastic line.

Now that I've finally got my handloading setup the thought has occured to me that my 22-250 Rem might be happier as a 22-250 Ackley Improved!

I wonder if a gunsmith can ream out the chamber of the existing rifle and what such a job would cost? Hmm...might be worth looking into.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not looking for something that'll knock the crusties off a rabbits butt at 1k yrds. I just want something that shoots fair groups at 3-500 yrds. I do practice at that range with my 270 and get good enough groups that I feel comfortable taking shots on game that far away. Since Ruger doesn't have an accuracy guantee, I was a little nervous about getting one.

I'm a little miffed at the guys posting those horrible groups with their Rugers. Most people are going to think they really did them with Sakos or Tiikas...

If you can swing a little more coin, take a look at the Weatherby rifles. Several models now come with Krieger barrels. Krieger is probably one of the top three barrels in the country, not to mention the rock solid 9 lug action.

I have a Ruger 77, and Remington 700 BDL, SS, DM, and my next will be the Weatherby Mark 5 stainless in .300 win mag.

For general hunting you can't go wrong with any of the major manufactuers.

I had a Weatherby Mark five. It was the worse gun at any price that I ever had. And the most expensive my far. If I ever get another Weatherby it will be the Vanguard. Screw me once thier fault, screw me twice, My fault.
