Smaller than what? Our reds here in Il are twice the size of the greys we have here. I have several people who ask for squirrels knowing I shoot them with a 22 want the reds for they have more meat. So far, I haven't found that any of my .22's are picky on what type of tree rat they drop!!! And my latest 10/22 REALLY loves Eley Subsonic. Will shoot sub 1/2" 5 shot groups at 50yds till I get bored of shooting.

2nd, must be referring to fox squirrels, reds never get more than 1/2 the size of a grey.

Our reds are small. Slightly bigger than chipmunk.

My old Winchester had a hard time with those bulk Remington 22s too. I've had really good luck withe Winchester wildcats or American Eagles
