I just bought a Browning Xbolt in .308 for $749.00. I am quite happy with it.

For box-stock guns, I have a couple of Tikkas and really like (not love) them. I will say they both are superbly accurate with most handloads and factory loads I've run through them. I stuck one in a B&C because I hated the look of the factory stock. I like it mo better now.

I really like my FN Columbia, SC Winchester 70FW. I hear the new Portugal-made guns are getting good reviews.

I also have a Rem 700SA SPS project in the works. Going to run some loads through it tomorrow after working the trigger to see how it does. I have a McSwirley on order it will go into. Remington has had their issues of late, so I am interested to see how this fast-twist 260 Rem does.

I don't own one now, but the Howa (Weatherby Vanguard) is a solid choice. Just finished bedding and working the trigger on one for a friend. Excellent shooter.

Be sure to check on the Tikka T3. Awesome gun for the money...

Just rummaged through the closet... Except for a very nice shooting Savage 10, all the 308's are either little Remington 600's for walking around or Mauser 98's with long heavy barrels for roomy stands where I don't have to lug the behemoths very far. All routinely group under 1.2" and most will put 5 shots into less than an inch. Only one of the 600's were bought new in the box. Don't despise the "used" rack.

I own alot of rifles and handload for alot more here is my take.
Tikka T3 is superb, smoothest action of any rifle at any price, one of the best triggers in the industry, accuracy that will boggle your mind, very light weight, and a synthetic stock vastly superior to other rifles at it's price point. Only cons are the hard rubber recoil pad and the rather bland safety on an otherwise exceptional rifle.
Marlin X7 is also a great rifle for super cheap, darn thing will just plain shoot, but it lacks the refinement of the Tikka, clunky action, generic accutrigger knockoff, cheesy synthetic stock, but at least the recoil pad is good, mine is a 308 and it puts bullet holes in bullets holes at 100 even with bulk 147gr FMJs.
Savage 10/11/14/16 Savage builds one heck of a gun, I have been pleased with all of mine BUT if I did not handload one of them would piss me off because it does not like any factory ammo. Good trigger, good recoil pad, good accuracy but the worst synthetic stock in the universe. The Savage tactical rifles (aka 10FP and such) have a long standing reputation for tack driving accuracy, but since I have never shot one I cannot personally vouch for that.
Remington 700 SPS Waste of money, piss poor QC I will never touch another one. Easily the worst rifle I have ever owned or shot. Several friends of mine have owned them and all have had complaints, feeding problems, accuracy issues, just plain bad QC, save your money.
Browning A-Bolt II/III Absolutely love mine, the action and trigger are not Tikka good but decent, much like my Savage 30-06 it does not like factory but will shoot one hole groups with handloloads. Poor recoil pad on the II, good synthetic stock, good trigger and the II has the best magazine design of any rifle in existence, don't know why they went with the plain DBM on the A-Bolt III.
Ruger 77, The only reason I own a Ruger 77 is I love the feel of that gun, accuracy is on the marginal side but still plenty passable for hunting at real world ranges, trigger sucks as does the recoil pad (Mine is a Mk II) but the gun just plain feels good, and the action is very nice, I like the look and feel of the rifle enough that I plan on putting some $$$ into it to turn it into a real shooter (aftermarket trigger, bedding, and custom barrel)
Winchester 70, The new Winchester 70s are really nice guns, I have a Featherweight in 308 and it is fantastic, only gripes are the trigger is not as perfect as my Tikka, and the chamber on mine is cut a little rough leaving visible scars on my brass (not an issue if you don't reload) Shoots a consistant MOA with factory 150gr Corelokts and half that with 150gr SSTs over Varget.
Weatherby Vanguard (S2) well earned reputation for accuracy and overall quality for a cheap gun, my only gripe is the raised cheek piece on the rather bulky stock, I am not a big guy so I don't have real big hands and a stock that bulky is awkward for me, I much prefer the light/slim feel of the Tikka if I am going to be carrying it through the brush, on the bench or in a treestand it would not be an issue. Recommended if it feels right in your hand and on your shoulder.
Ruger American....... Coming soon I have one in 270 on order
