Default Budget Bolts

Anybody have any experience with and an opinion on any of the following:
Ruger American Rifle
Marlin X series
Savage Axis/Edge
Also interested in the Weatherby Vanguard 2 and the Savage Model 11 at a slightly higher price.
All opinions appreciated.

Rugers are one of the brands I'm very partial to and I've heard nothing but rave remarks about their American.

My daughter and niece both shoot Weatherby Vanguards in .243...(they are the same as a Howa 1500). For a first rifle...great value that will last. For the money, it is really hard to beat the Vanguard. They are accurate, handle well and are well built. I have no experience with the other you mention.

the nice thing about the savage 11,10 110 stevens 200 theres tons of aftermarket parts and very switchable to a different chambering if you want.ive got a 1998 savage 22-250 la ill put up against ANY stock factory rifle.the edge you cant do much with, the marlins are also an excellent rifles and like the savages can be rebarreled and such.the same with the vangards

IMO - Ruger American Rifle & the TC Venture are the "best" entry level boltguns out there right now.

Thanks, all, for the input.

Isn't the TC Venture priced significantly higher than an "entry level" gun?

A Friend of mine bought a Savage Axis/Edge in the .243 Camo with the Bushnell 3X9X40mm scope...nice accurate Rifle for the Money.

I have a Savage Model 11/111 GCNS Wood Stock, blue barrel in a 7mm-08 with the Accu-Trigger and its a very nice looking Rifle and very accurate also.

Check into the CZ-USA Rifles, thay are reasonable priced and great shooting Guns too!

Certainly a dollar amount would be more helpful than "entry level" in trying to recommend some within your budget.

Agreed Sheridan, looking at up to about $500 -- nothing set in stone, and cheaper would be better, of course, lol. I looked up the Venture and it was right in my price range. Not sure what I was thinking, maybe had it mixed up in my head with something else. Anyways, it wasn't on my radar for whatever reason, so thanks for pointing it out, I'll look closer.

GTO, basically looking for .243 or 25-06, intend to use it for antelope, target, and maybe on occassion, coyote. Leaning, slightly, toward the .243.

You might look at the Mossberg ATR or 4X4. I bought a Maverick (no frills ATR) in .270 and have been impressed with the accuracy of the rifle. It doesn't shoot as tight as my Sako L691, but for $168 it shoots very well (.75-1.4" 3 shot groups).
