Just got done shooting my 1895 for the first time. Man I love it! Shot some winchester 350 grain through it. Really, the kick wasnt bad. It was accurate right from the box and the only caveat was the rear sight. I cant see it al that well. Other than that, shoot, fit and finish are great! EJ

Do you handload?? I've been shooting the 350 gr. Hornady FP thru mine. The gun loves them...and you're right....although not the recoil of a .243, it is certainly manageable with proper rests and form. Mine is currently wearing a Leupy VX II, but I have a Ghost Ring for it. Don't know if I'll put it on or not. It was my intent all along just to work up a good load with the scope on it, and then go to the open sight but I'm having a hard time telling myself to take the scope off..

...................Not sure. As I said in another post, I've not yet chronographed that load yet. I think bigcountry was fooling with that bullet in his gun for awhile...Maybe he can give some numbers.....

I believe you can safely load the Marlin 1985 45/70 to get over 2000 fps with 350 grain bullets. Hodgdon's website has some loads. Hornady LeverEvolution in 350 grain are over 2000 fps if my memory is correct.
Just checked, there are a few loads for 350 grain bullets over 2000 fps, up to about 2300.
