I've booked a mule deerhunt out West (Eastern Colorado)where possiblyshot opportunitiesmay present themselvesoutto 200-300 yds.. Needless to say, this Easterner will be doing alot of practicing atthe club over the summer. I'm looking to purchase a set of durable shooting sticks. I have the Stony Point shooting sticks but they don't appear very stable on rockyor uneven terrain. Any suggestions on brands,models, and sizethat I should consider (I would be shooting primarily kneeling or sitting)? Also should I get the bipod or tripod model shooting sticks? Any helpful advice would be appreciated.

Since I live 'out west' which is determined, I presume by where you originate from I can answer. I hunt mulies eastern CO (which is actually 'out east for me')every year. Never saw an attached bipod that worked well for that. Buy good sturdy shooting stiks with a pivoting head. They will extend above the CRP grass and cut corn quite well, bipods don't. The weight is not a problem. On the plains you will spend lots of time looking from a far distance and planning a stalk. At least that is the way we do it. The terrain doesn't allow for much else. My sister farms 12,000 acres out there and there are like two trees on the property....its flat as a pool table.

I havea Harris bipod and tookit off as its not very quick or steady as my shooting sticks. Its also noisy. Buy sticks that can be folded and carriedeasily.

Don't worry about sticks that fold up or store in small packages. Typically they are flimsy and seldom work well extended out. You will not be in the trees, tall grass and farm land is the norm. If you get used to carrying them these are what work best for us.

I got the Primos Trigger stick (the longer version) and it works well for me. But this is a monopod. I see they came out with a bi-pod version. That would be even better yet. It is made from tubular aluminum and is pretty durable.
Just another option you can look into.

I have two wooden dowels held together with a bolt and wrapped in black tape. I have never used themto huntmule deer but have held a steady rest out to 300 yards easy and killed whitetail out to 160 with them.
