Another vote for the Rugers. I have four #1s and two #3s, (took 25 years to collect). They are made to last. Also have one High Wall in 45/70 and four H&R Handi-Rifles. The H&Rs shoot the loosest groups but are still good for 100 yd. shots.

I've really heard a lot about the Handi I was thinking about perhaps 45-70 gov. For the price they seem like the way to go. As for caliber. All of my rifles are "practical" calibers. So a 45-70 gov. in single shot would be just neat to have while at the same time useful.

If your going to go with a Handi.. Go with the 444 Marlin.. Much better ballistically. I love mine.. It is considered a primative weapon here in MS..

I load for a buds .243 Handi Rifle. I was skeptical at first, but it'll put 100gr Speer's and 58gr V-max inside an inch. I'd go with the handy in whatever cal you prefer for the $. Brett
