If Browning would make them in America or even back in Belgium or any place besides "made in Japan" , I'd own one. Thank God Weatherby has come back home and are again made here. You said you were on a budget though. What about Savage. I don't own one but a friend of mine got one this year and it shoots pretty well. As far as customer service goes, I have had good service from Remington when my fore end cracked on an 1187. They replaced it quickly and at no charge. When I had problems with a 416 from their custom shop they sent me 3 different stocks until they got it right but they never quit or complained they just kept saying we'll do it until its right. CZ has some good looking and relatively inexpensive rifles you can look at online if you really want to look at other budget minded alternatives. In my opinion there is nothing wrong with either Remington or Weatherby. Maybe it would be a good idea to go to a shop and physically put each in your hands and see how they feel to you personally. I sometimes like to do it that way. Good luck in your search.

I know this will ruffle someone's feathers.Go with the Remington 700ADL.Weatherby's in my opinion are over rated and the ammunition for their cartridges are outrageously priced.30-06 ammunition is available everywhere. The Weatherby ammunition is a special ammunition made for their guns and you'll pay a premium price for it.Chances are you'll have to order it or buy it through a Weatherby dealer.Very doubtful if your local Wally World will carry it or even small gunshops for that matter.
Kodiak H.M. I agree Browning is proud $$$$$ of their guns. They do turn out quality products but you'll pay for that quality. The Browning's aren't to bad if you can catch them on sale.I bought 2 Browning BAR "Stalkers" for 539.99 each.Retail is around 825.00.I got these at a Bass Pro in Cincinnati.OH.I prefer Ruger's. Ruger produces Quality guns at reasonable prices.

The remington has a great feel to it while the weatherby seems a little longer and fancier than it needs to be.

People talk about "out of the box" accuracy, what happens if after I get it out of the box and it doesn't do so hot?

I was wrong on my earlier post. The Weatherby has a 24" barrel. For What its worth, I just had the same choice between a 300 Weatherby and a 300 Winmag Model 70. I took the Winmag.

On that 257, you say you only got 2-3 inch groups? Where they handloads? I worked at a sporting goods shop once and we sold a Rem bdl .270, that is what it said on the bbl, but was actually chambered in 3006! The guy shot 6 boxes of shells before he wanted us to ship it back. Just thought it was kinda funny, might have been your prob too. Could have been a bad lawsuit for Rem if something would have happened to that poor sap.

This might be off the topic , but I want to comment about all the NRA Life Member's showing up in their signatures.I might be wrong but F4YG and I were the one who started putting the NRA in our signatures and others have been following suit now.I think it's great and helps getting the word out. Thanks to all of you for your support.Ruger Redhawk
