which is a better all around caliber from antelope,black bear,whitetail deer, and mile deer?

bear72 - I'd look at the .270 wsm. I think that will be the next best "all around" cartridge if there is one.

For what you mentioned either one will do in my opinion . I have used both and would be comfortable using either one .

I like 30-06 because I hunt mostly white tails but this will work when I finally get a chance to go for elk with my in-laws in Montana.

Either a .270 or a .30-06 would suit you fine. Like they said, .270 shoots flatter, but the .30-06 hits harder. Personally, I like my .30-06, but I have never shot a .270

both are nice but i like bullet diameters that bigger. dont necessarily care for much speed on the bullet but i do like them fat. so based purely on my love of fat bullets i have to go with the .30-06, though a .338-06 or a .35 whelen could fit that bill very well
