I agree with everything already said...

The Marlin 30-30 is a legendary rifle, 112 years and still going strong! It is more rugged than the famed Winchester 94, but both lever guns are equally famous with countless articles written about them. They are truely a piece of American history.

Some people scope their 30-30 rifles, others don't. It all depends on personal preference. I had a scope on mine, but I soon took it off and got used to the plain open sights.

Tell the co-worker that by buying a Marlin 30-30 for her son, she is passing along a tradition and her son will fall in love with the Marlin 30-30 and keep it forever. Possibly passing it on down to his grandson in years to come.

I agree. I think everyone should have at least one in their safe. I actually have5 lever actions myself.2 30-30's, a .35 Remington, a .450 Marlin, as well as a .22 lever action.

Good point, by getting her son the Marlin 336 she will also more than likely be buying her grandson and possibly even her great grandkid a gift to truely treasure. Not to mention many memories.

No, but I think there is an unwritten rule somewhere, that every gun safe has to have some sort of lever action rifle in it.

In 30-30 lever action guns, the Marlin is probably the best made gun out there.
That may be; I like mine.

ORIGINAL: MichaelT.Many deer have fallen to those guns. With the new Hornady leverrevolution ammo it is a solid 150 yard gun. That is with a good scope and in steady hands.
God bless
Heh heh - that Hornady marketing is impressive! Get a grip - the 30-30 is a solid 150 yard rifle, with just about any 150/170gr bullet it'll shoot well. I think it is a reasonable 200 yard rifle without using Hornady's new ammo.

I'm hearing the 30-30 dismissed as a kid's gun, a good starter for the novice - I think this underrates a 30-30 Marlin. I've been shooting for over 30 years, and just got a Marlin. Seems to me to be a perfectly good deer rifle, no caveat required.

It is good-looking, too.

if you could find one in .35 rem, i would say dont wait a minute. just that the .35 seems to be a better cartridge than the 30/30. even though the 30/30 is an very deadly round
