Very good rifle for the money, I had one in .270, recoil was not bad at all. But that was after shooting the .375 H&H.

Also, look at the Stevens Model 200, or the Savage 111 Series of Package Rifles, they are all very good, reliable and accurate.

I have a Mossberg ATR100 in 270,it is a great gun for the money. It will shot about 1'' groups at 100yds with 130gr remington or winchester ammo. The recoil is not bad for a lite rifle, littile less then a 12ga.I mounted a fixed 4x tasco on it,soon to be up graded to a better 4x scope.I have killed 2 deer this year already with the gun.If you look around at Wal Mart you can pic these guns up for under 250.00 dollars.

The 30-06 shouldn't be a whole lot worse.

Over the years I have shot alot of 30/06 and 270 and have not found much differance in recoil,as fareas accuracy they should also be about the same
