As an example if you start the 100gr ballistic point at 3500fps the velocity at 100 yards will be 3230fps and at 500 yards it will be 2294fps.In other words it will lose 270fps over the first 100 yards and 1206fps over 500 yards.This data taken from the nosler reloading guide number four.
Obviously you did not understand what the tech was telling you.He should have provided a fps per inch of barrel figure and not a fps per yardage figure.

you need to talk with that hornady rep again.Barrel length does not affect how fast a bullet loses velocity once it has left the barrel. Barrel length affects muzzle velocity. Oh and these guys are correct, Your 100gr spire point is going to lose alot more than 50 fps in the first 100yrds. Look at some ballistic tables for proof.
