I like the idea of all the optionsfor the Encore but how are they when it comes to accuracy with center fire barrels. What do you guys think? Another option is buying H&R rifles for the same price as th T/C barrels.

I absolutely love mine. I have a 50. cal inline, 22-250 and a .300 win mag barrels. Each one is very accurate and i think the quality of gun is better with the encore, to me the H&R's feel cheap. Not saying that they wont kill a deer cause i've witnessed them doing so.

I too had an encore in 7-08 and couldn't get it to shoot that well. Traded it in on a Browning Micro Hunter in same chambering. That Encore was sent to T/C twice and still couldn't shoot. My Contender shoots very good with all barrels but not that Encore.
I see a lot of people using them on TV but I had no luck with mine.

My dad and I have Thompson Contenders. My dad put a 24" factory heavy barrel .223 on his and it will touch holes at 100 yards with a few different handloads. It will shoot .5 MOA with cheap winchester factory loads.

I've not had a problem one with my Encore. Other than trying to find a set of mounts that dont hang over the end of the chamber. I have about a inch of air under my base.
I just ended up going with the T/C Bases. Which still have a air gap under them, but it does'nt seem to bother my zero any.

Varmint Al's website sings the praises of the Encore.
I've heard, however, that T/C's factory barrels are not as accurate as some of the other custom barrel-makers (Virgin Valley, Lilja, etc.)
Just google "encore barrels," and you'll find a few others. It's my understanding that when an encore frame is strapped to a heavy, custom fluted barrel, that it will shoot the lights out. I have no experience personally.
My next gun purchase will probably be a SSEncore frame.

I have a Stainless Encore in 270 Win (24 inch Stainless Barrel) and it shoots great. Below is a target I shot today from 150 yards, prone, shooting over my day-pack.
My Encore seems to prefer the Federal, but as always it could be my shooting

I have an Encore .223, and it is accurate. I did do a trigger job and some other tuning. Try Mike Bellm's website for some good information about the Encores - the forums there are informative. It's a fun rifle to shoot.
