RE: scope for savage
Swampman has suggested a good scope. If you don't want to spend that much go for the Bushnell Legend 3-9X40 for around $129. From looking at the Bushnell literature I believe this is the same scope without the rainguard feature. The 3200 model is certainly worth every bit of $175.

RE: scope for savage
i think that i'm going to get either the package gun from savage 16fxp3 which is synthetic stock and a stainless stell barrel, or one of the 12 series carmint rifles in whcih case i would need to get a scope, mounts and rings....any suggestions?

Burris fullfield 3x9 scopes are an excellent optic costing $169 at natchez shooters supply(natchezss.com?) they also have a ballistic plex reticle. This will definetely be my next mid-powered scope.

RE: scope for savage
I purchased a Savage 16 fxp3 in 270 wsm this past winter and have been very pleased with the rifle. I did not want the package deal but I really wanted the 270 wsm and it was the only one they had in stock. The package scope was a Simmons 8 point (3-9x40) which you can buy for 24.95 online. I removed the scope, bases and rings and replaced the setup with Leupold bases and rings, and a Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9x40. I am extremely happy with this rifle and scope combination.
