My best freind has one arm
#1

My best friend only has one arm. He lost his right arm in a bike accident 20 years ago, and yes, he was right handed. I met him after his accident(10 years ago) at a dog trial event. He is a profesional photograhper, also a welder, gunsmith, carpenter, mechanic, NASCAR driver. He has built 6 houses mostly by himself. I have seen him drop the transmission out of his vehicles(yes, I help). He is the best wingshot I have ever seen. He was on the CDN olypic skeet team for a while,he shoots IPCS. He reloads and builds his own rifles.
This man is my best friend, he does not know I am writing this. I personally do not even see that the arm is missing, to all concerned, niether does anyone else in our group of friends. He can do more with only that one arm now than most of us could hope to do with both of our arms in a given lifetime.
More power to you Dan, I love you, Ron<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Welcome to the board, Rbduck!
I'll bet he has a helluva personality, to boot! He's certainly an inspiration for all ~ especially the disabled community. There's a saying that goes great with this story ~ "I can't" never could...

Hey rbduck!Welcome to the boards.Your story about your friend brought back some fond memories for me.I too had a very close friend that only had one arm.Like your friend,he was absolutly the best wing-shooter that I have ever met.He worked with my dad for the railroad, and lost his arm in a derailment clean-up operation. When I was real young,I came very close to being killed in a hunting accident.I went thru alot of hard times, and often wanted to give up with the physical therapy, and having to relearn how to do the simplest tasks. My doctors, parents, and family members did what they could to motivate me...but often it just didn't matter to me anymore.Had it not been for this friend,I would have given up.He was able to relate to me in a way that none of the others ever could.I owe him more than I'll ever be able to repay. With his help,I learned to shoot as a southpaw(having previously been a righty),and I became a pretty good wing-shooter myself. We shot doves, ducks, quail, skeet,
and trap together.Just like your friend,it seemed there was nothing that my friend could not do.He handloaded ammo, fished(including baiting his hooks),shot pool and snooker, skinned wild game,...you name it....he could do it!He truly taught me to believe in myself, and to realize that if you want to do it bad enough...then you can do it!Hope I didn't bore yall with this rambling on,but when I read your post,I had to tell you my experience...LOL
.Anyway, welcome again duck...and tell your friend hi for me.

An old buddy of mine in Austin used to have a plaque on his desk that said "Whether you think you can or you can't, you're probably right."
