Default Why Is It ?

Why is it ?

That people start to talk to a disabled person.
They talk about hunting and fishing.
Then they ask what they do for a living.
And when they say Im on disability.
Its like they have a incureable dease that will rub off.
And they might get it.
And won't even give the person the time of day any more.
Or they will talk about them behind there backs.
Saying that they are just to lazy to work.

Never takeing into acount that the disabled person Really has,
Health problems.

thats just the way people are.i would trade places with any of them in a heart beat.even just for 1 week i think it would change alot of the way they think.the way i look at it they can think of us any way they like.the only thing that matters is what we think of our self and all you have to do is think positive

I have a disabilty from Viet-Nam, I also work for IMB Outfitters as a guide.

Most people dont understand that there are REAL people with disabilities, all they hear about are the people that are to lazy to work or have been busted ripping off the system. I see people takeing handicaped parking at any place ,get out and run , and I mean run into the store, and hear other people say look another faker.

A lot of the parking permits are misused by the disabled persons Friends, make the real people look bad.

If you dont have a disability that people can see right off the bat they think you fakeing.

Thats my take on it anyway.

My disabilities are many, but are more or less hidden/invisible disabilities. I also am good at hiding them and not complaining. I am called a faker all the time even though I must take over 15 medicines to stay alive. I must take morphine daily to even move. Yes, it's terminal, but still I try. When I try to get out in the woods any way I can, I am called the biggest phoney around. They say "he can hunt but he can't work". They don't realize that I'd love to work, living in poverty as most disabled people do is no joke. I would love to see each one of them have my disabilities for one week. Even after that little time I think many would say they would rather be dead. To all those who say we are fakers, Thank God that you are healthy, because you'd never survive what we go through!

yup if your not in a wheel chair can walk have all your marbles and limbs you must be a fake. i cant see the problem . get a job right. i saw you pushing the shopping cart and saw you mow your lawn, even saw you change the oil in the car. so why not work? thats the story of my life. even family members call me a fake every now and then. it just dont matter that i feel like i have been hit by a mack truck, have not slep good one night in many years, have to take 10 meds several times a day it just dont matter. i push the cart because i need some thing to lean on. mow the lawn cause if i dont who will? never mind that after i do mow the lawn you may not see me for another week only because im in bed or not well enough to come out to play. never mind that i **** my britches cause i could not hold it , never mindnever mind the way i feel. people always ask me whats wrong why do you not work? and why do you look ok when ever i see you. well because you only see me when i am feeling well enough to be out thats why. but i see you cutting your grass once a week. yes but the rest of the time did you ever wonder why you dont see me? people think if the package looks good every thing must be well. right.......
i do what i can when i can and when i dont feel up to doing things i still do because i have to. and some times i dont because i just cant. some times i feel real bad when people talk but some times i just say **** all this for 800 in ss every month id be crazy to work. lol

Yeah, it stinks, you hit the nail on the head. But I guess we just have to remember that things can be worse and there are others still worse off thenwe are. Hard to imagine when we're as sick as we are. Keep the faith and keep trying. you know that's what keeps us going.

I can relate to you guys.
Mine show up readily on an x-ray... Degenerative disc disease-nerve root irritation...no disc at all at 6/7 and 75% gone at 5/6..arthritis all through my neck and back.....Pain just about all through my body as it is something that just slowly worsens.
Left leg 1/2 inch shorter than the other.
BUT>>>I have everything that I came into the world with..I am so grateful for that because lots of our brethren don't.
I was having a bad day once and was taking my usual walk through Wal-Mart- to just get out and get a little exercise and pick up a few things.
Kinda feeling sorry for myself, just a little. Asking God why I had to live like this.
When I was 16 i fell an honest 20 feet out of a tree hunting raccoons in Central Penna.
When I was 21 i was pulling into the turning ;lane to make a left turn into traffic. A young man going home from college fell asleep-when he looked up, there I was broadside-in the correct lane-but it looked all wrong to him. He hit me right at my front door 60-65 MPH.
I was in a1960 Chevy and only all that iron and steel saved me.
Broke my neck and back...The 6 cylinder engine was upside down under the hood-tore it out of the motor mounts and the transmisson.. and flipped upside down. All 4 tires flattened-the backseat in the TRUNK.. and the roof came to a point.
Had surgery YEARS later to repair the damage.
Got a degree from Penn State in Wildlife and a Degree In Fores Biology at Univ of Montana.
Now get this-all my life lived in pain and I fall a lousy 8-10 feet working in the STEEP mountains outside of St. Regis in Montana, and that lousy fall does me in, incredible.
Was rehabbing myself by then-running three or four days a week-3-5 miles, lifting every other day and still practicing my martial arts.
The neurologist said that if I hadn't been in such good shape i might have really hurt myself-really?[:@]
Tried to rehab me for about 5 yrs-gave up and reccommended retirement-at 45??????
And don't get me started with Work Comp.....What a period of sheer hell in my life then.
Guess I haven't dealt with this as well as i thought I did.
Wow...wasn't figuring on this man...

Any way, there I was at Wal-Mart and just kinda bitching a little at God and there at the checkout line was a man and his young wife and 2 small kids-the guy was probably in his early thirties and had both arms off at the elbows.. I had to turn down another aisle so no one could see the tears.
That's why I never bitch or complain-out loud about my condition.
There is always someone worse off than I am. I told that to my current doc, who has been pressuring me for more surgery for at least 8 yrs.
He said, "Yeah but they're getting harder and harder to find aren't they Leep?"
God Bless you all and thanks for the opportunity to get some things off my chest that I didn't even know were there.....
Take care:
