I sat in my pop-up blind last night. I did not see the big 170-class Whitetail I have been after. My wife drove out and watched the field from a distance. She said the big buck came into the field & feed about 300-yards behind me.[:o] I never saw him. The good news is when I took down the ground blind & walked out of the field, I did not scare any deer out of the field. The deer kept there distance but did not run. I will set-up again tonight & try to intercept that big buck again?
I did see a good 4x4 mule deer buck last night. He came in too late to field judge/score him but he was a shooter buck.

Wolf killer, I don't think the rest of the team would mind if you took a nice muley...good luck!

On my way to work this morning, I saw a nice 140 class buck in the middle of a bean field...about 40 yards from the road. There's something you don't see every day...unbelievable! Very dark horns, which is rare for around here...of course it is still September, so they may lighten up as the hunting season goes along. Saw this deer a couple of miles from one of the farms I hunt...which makes you a little anxious for the season to start.

LLBUX, how many other guys are on your lease?

RE: Official Team "Braggin Bucks" (23) Thread

We would be tough to beat if we would each kill a 140" buck.

My best guess is that it will take just 600" of antler for a team to win.

Thanks to this contest, I have the incentive to get out more often and the incentive to take a buck rather than the doe I usually take each year.

Let's get 'em. No talk, all action.

Hey Y'all,

Wolf I hope you get that big sucker..... Good Luck.. LLbux I agree.. 600 sounds like the number to aim for.. But if the whole team got a deer it would be really really hard to beat... That would be awesome... This team thing is really cool.. Got to meet some good people..

GIT R DONE....

Good luck everyone! It sounds like the first buck of the year has been taken and will be entered tonight. We can all have a sigh of relief and get after our bucks. I have 10 days until taxidermy school, and 17 days until I can actually get out. I can't wait for either one. Good luck!

I took my MANDATORY doe on Saturday. Stalked to within 15 yds. A small fine eating doe! We have "Earn A Buck here in NJ. Certain zones require the harvest of a DOE first. Now I am ready for some antler...

My first trip out was a good one...

RE: Official Team "Braggin Bucks" (23) Thread

Congrats jerseyjoe!! Do you have to wait a special # of days before you can harvest a buck, or can you technically shoot a doe in the morning, then go out that same night and get a buck? Just curious. We don't have the "Earn a Buck" law here in IL. How long has the law in NJ been like this?

RE: Official Team "Braggin Bucks" (23) Thread

Thanks!!!
Once the deer is tagged, you can go back out for either another doe or buck. EAB has been in effect for I believe 5 or 6yrs maybe. It has increased the age class of bucks.

Good job joe! Looks like you are ready to get us started and on the board.

I'll get my first chance on October 2. I'll be hunting does, but will whack a good buck if he comes along.

I have 8 shooters on tape, maybe one will stop by and visit that first day.

Good luck all!

Opening day this Friday!! Counting down the hours now. Getting some nice chilly mornings here in West Central IL...well, this morning was 58 degrees, but tomorrow it will be 44...and the trend is to continue. Taking Friday off to get my butt out in one of my stands.

Team 23, do we have any members out there whose season either hasn't started or doesn't start on Oct. 1st? Just curious. It's tough enough to wait another three days.

Hunter, we gotta wait till the 2nd here in Pa [:@]

7. You must have a pictured posted on the contest page within the Official Score Card thread to enter a deer. The buck must have a tag visable(if tags apply to your state), the bow must be in the picture and the entire deer must be in the picture, no skull pictures, no rack pictures...the buck, the bow, the tag and yourself must be in the picture.....call me skeptical.
---> just a reminder for everybody that starts hunting this week. People are gunna be jealous when we start entering monsters, so lets not give them anything to nit-pick about. ;) Good luck fellas.

I went hunting again today. I decided to try a different spot though. I found a perfect setup at the top of a hill with a trail made from deer tracks going strait up the hill from a stream at the bottom. There were some boulders at the top that made for a perfect waiting place. There was even a bedding area in front of the bolders. I got up there and waited for about 2 hours. Then I heard the crunching of steps and waited. The anticipation was killing me. Finally the buck walked high enough on the trail that I could see it clearly. And it was a 1 pointer. A one pointer! I decided not to take that shot. I'm going again tomorrow though. I know that the 1 pointer isn't the only deer using that trail.
Good luck to those of you whose season is about to open!

Well the season opened today and I was fortunate enough to be able to see the sunrise on another bow season.

Was only able to sit for a few hours b/c I had to get to work, but to my surprise their was quite a bit of EARYLY activity. I saw 6 does and a nice 8 pt. within the first hour of light. I could have stuck 2 of the does but held off as I am not quite that hungry, yet, and didn't really feel like dressing a doe before work, but I would have for the 8 had he been in another 15 yds. or stopped in a clear spot with a good angle, which didnt' exist between his route and my tree.[:@]

Hope all is doing well.

I have been out several times with no luck.[:@] I did have a mule deer doe @ 26-yards two days ago. I have had several deer inside my comfort range of 40-yards. Just none have been big enough to shoot.
The big 170-class buck has stopped hanging around with the does. I might have to wait for the rut before I get a shot at him?

No shot opportunities.

2 more on way home.

Open day report-->

7:05: had a small spike walk under my tree and bed down till around 7:25. He eventually walked off into the timber.

7:45: had two does pass by at 20 yards, i passed hoping my nephew would get a shot( he was set up 60 yards away).

Those were the only three deer i saw all morning, and ended up seeing the same three later that afternoon. No shots but it was good to be back in the stand and seeing deer.
