Guy's !
I had planned on hunting yesterday, but I came down with the flu and ended up in bed for the day.But today I'm feeling pretty good and plan on getting out this afternoon,we've had freezing rain last night and the forecast is for rain this afternoon ,but I'm not gonna let that stop me ,I'm going out anyway's unless it's a steady downpour.

Guy's !
This morning I was planning on working ,but never got the call ,so since i was up I decided to go hunting .It was snowing pretty good and I figured I would probably be wasting my time but I'll go anyway's .I walked into my treestand at 7:00am and it was still dark out .I wasn't in my stand 10 minute's and I see a dark object crossing the field toward's me ,at that point I wasn't able to tell whether it was a buck or a doe ,I lost sight of it and figured it went into the bush I was in down the road where I couldn';t see it.It was just breaking daylight anyway's so I wasn't sure whether I'd be able to get a shot at it anyway's ,so it was just as well. After about 20 minute's had passed I noticed something moving in the bush about 50yrds up wind from me and since the snow was laying on the tree's it was pretty obvious that it was a deer ,but at this distance I still wasn't able to determine whether it wa a buck or doe yet.It was coming right to me and as it closened the distance I realized that it was a buck ,and he was a good one worth taking for the team.If I had to take a guess I'd have to say he would probably go 120 + maybe better .As he approached the 30yrd mark he stopped behind a tree and that's when I decided to come to full draw ,I'm sure he heard me because he put his nose in the air and started to smell and he continuously looked around .Once he figured he was safe he started to wander a little closer but I was still unable to get a shot at him for all of the young growth he stood behind .I held and held and could tell if he was to turn a bit to his right I would have a clean shot and he would only be 20yrds away broadside ,Perfect eh? but oh no he has to go to his left and stay behind the brush pile till he was safe and getting out of distance that i was unable to get a clean shot .At one point i thought of trying to drive an arrow through a very small opening and hitting him high behind the shoulder ,but thought that that would be irresponsible to try to take a shot that gave me a very low percentage for success. He hung around for a few minute's but never gave me another shot .I had my finger's crossed but I guess that's how thing's go .I'll be back out tonight to see if maybe he'll come back the same direction that he went and maybe this time I'll be able to make it count. Sorry guy's but I'm really trying to get some inch's added to our score .
I'll let you's all know how thing's go tonight .

I hope to put some meat in the freezer nest week during BP season and maybe find a buck that has survived gun season to tkae with my bow but it sure isnt looking too good. As I have stated this has been my worst year in a long long time. But I will not give up until dark on the 31st

Well guy's I've just gotten home from my evening hunt ,I presume the deer are bedding expecting bad weather ,which has been called for for our area. Not one fresh track since I left this morning .When I got into my stand I sat for about 20 minute's before doing some doe bleet's ,after bleeting I heard what I thought was a buck grunt I waited for awhile and I heard it again ,again and again .I was thinking that it might be a tree creeking from the wind but this was going on and on whether the wind was blowing or not ,I listened to this for 2 hour's while in stand .I still don't know what the sound was coming from ,it wasn't continuous because it would stop and after awhile it would start up again, all i can say was it was the wierdest thing I've ever heard in all the year's that I've been hunting.I thought that maybe this was a bedded buck trying to get the doe to come to her ,the other thing was the sound was moving back and forth on the ridge above me from one side to the other . Do you guy's have any idea's what this might have been ,it sounded just like buck grunt's but some were very short and some were longer like a normal grunt .Could this have been a bedded buck or was my imagination working overtime ?
Other than that ,I never got a sniff ,notta notta thing moving anywhere tonight.Maybe tommorrow morning will be better.

Well guys, I had to take a few days off from deer hunting. A little medical problem. It seems as if I have had a Transition ischemic attack. Which means a tiny 20 second stroke. All is good though. I am taking blood thinners now and I can go hunting. They say I have a tiny hole in my heart which can be repaired through a heart catherization with a special plug. If all goes well and I see no reason it should not then I will be back to normal and not having to take blood thinners for the rest of my life. I will try to see if I can add some inches to our score. The rut is just about to start here. Guys enjoy your hunts.

Sorry to hear you've had to miss out on hunting espeacially when the season seem's so short to strt with .I hope thing's are O.K. with you and your able to get out in your shortened season . Your health is more important than hunting so you take care of yourself and hopefully you'll get a bit of hunting done with what remain's of the season. I've had some great outing's this season but have only connected on the rifle hunt so far ,I've had some close call's with the bow but have yet to connect ,We've gotten quite a bit of snow over the last 24 hour's with blizzard like condition's here today .I'm done work on the 19th of this month so I'll have 2 week's left to get the job done .Anyway's take care of yourself and be sure that your feeling well before you venture out into the bush .We need the inch's but not at the expense of a team member's health .

Greg,
Sorry to hear about that. Hopefully everything works out for the best.
NUBO,
You're an experienced hunter and there aren't too many things in the woods that sound like a grunt. You did say that some of them were really short right...well, I don't know if you've ever heard a buck trying to breed a doe but it is a similar sound to a grunt but usually shorter. It sounds more like a short clicking sound. But, more than likely if you thought it was a grunt, it probably was. He may have just had a hot doe (2nd estorus) almost in a standing heat. At that point a doe will not move a whole lot but more back and forth across a small area. I have only seen this twice but I tell you what, it sure is amazing.
Good Luck to everyone!

I'm pretty darn sure that's exactly what it was then ,I've never heard this before but I was pretty sure it was a buck grunting .I had a buck come into that area in the morning ,but this went on for a longtime ,I listened to it continuously for over an hour and I tried to listen hard thinking it was a tree making noise from the wind ,but even when the wind dropped the noise continued .the only thing was that it went on for so long is the reason I didn't think that it was a deer ,but the more I listened it had to be ,it's the only thing that it could have been .I've never heard anything like this before .Today is the last day for the bowhunt in the usual area that I hunt ,so I'll be out tonight for the last kick at the can. After this I'll have to hunt a different area that's close to me ,but I only have a couple place's to hunt there ,but there is lot's of crowned land that I can hunt .

NUBO,
Keep up the good work...I think you may be the only one hunting right now. We haven't heard anything from a lot of our team members. Greg was talking about the rut just kicking in down in Mississippi so he still has a good chance. Well, Good luck and like I said before, keep up the good work.
You certainly can't shoot anything sitting at home.

It sure seem's like a lonely world down here when nobodies around to tell me how thier hunting is going ,so I guess I'll have to go it alone .I'm now officially on Holiday's and there's 2 week's left here in Ont. So I'll be giving her and hopefully something will pay off.
