hey yall sorry I havent checked in latly....I moved and havent had internet service untill last night. Here in Clinton Louisiana the weather has made for some hard hunting. Its been hot and dry up untill a few days ago. Now its hot and wet...lol ...There are tons of Deer out here they just havent been moving much. I have only seen 2 bucks one was in a field I saw on my way to work...figures.
The other evening I was heading to my stand and just about the time I got to my stand I jumped a doe.....so I stoped and stood still....well lo and behold a yearling comes down a trail straight for me....now she feeds right up to me!! not 5 feet from me....I noticed a few more deer comming down the trail.....one wich happens to be a verry nice 8 point....so here i am with my bow in my sling and my trigger in my pocket with a yearling barley 5 feet away from me!!!!!!! of course I was totaly helpless because had I moved the yearling would have surley blowed and let every deer in the woods know I was there.....so I just stood there and watched....thats all I could have done......I learned alot by watching the and seeing what they were feeding on.......anyway I have only seen a couple of does and that yearling since............good luck yall

Hey Cottonmouth did you get busted by the little guy?
I hunted 5 mornings and 2 eves so far. NO shots taken. Saw one adult doe at 36 yds and a biddy nubbin buck at 31yds. Maybe next weekend.
Food plots are looking good here in east Texas but with the oaks raining acorns there is no sign in my Oats, clover, winter peas, greens. The deer aren't even hitting the feeders (corn). Weather has been unseasonably warm, 90+ degrees.

Things should be heating up for you mid western guys and gals. The rut should be right around the corner for a few of you, hopefully we can add a couple entries!!!

I'm heading to S. Illinois next week for 5 days. Hopefully I can help the team with a brute!!!! If not, I still have the rut in MS in mid to late December. Hang in there team, we can do this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, the rut is around the corner....
This morning we had heavy fog so I knew there would be some movement. I set up at the corner of the corn field. Soon after I heard what sounded like a herd of horses. Turned out to be two does being chased by a 6 point buck. The does never did get close enough to me and the buck isn't legal here[&o][:@]
Took a walk around the property the other day and found tons of rubs and some nice scrapes. The big boys must be nocturnal though... but the next three weeks will be good!!!:D

Hey all. In case you have not read it here is my story. [link]http://forum.hunting.net/asppg/tm.asp?m=809498[/link]

Sorry you won't be getting anything from me this season. I really thought with the 18 days in the field I would be posting a nice buck. Guess this was not supposed to be my year. Good luck to all of you now that the rut is getting started. I'll be checking back in more later.

Walk safely.

Wihunter, what horrible news. I was ready to hear some good news like a buck or a good story. Like some of the others, I don't think your season is over. Don't give up hope, I'm sure you'll heal quickly.

Well, I went hunting for the first time in over 2 weeks. It was raining when I left but stopped before heading into the woods. I hunted for 3.5 hours without seeing a single deer. I guess the 70 degree temp was a bit high and the 15 mph wind. I did see 3 tom turkeys for the first time at my cousins land. They were so colorful and clean. they walked within 20 yards and then busted me. Next year I'll be able to take a shot considering we're getting a fall bow turkey season. I was getting a bit bored of wathing all the leaves fall off the trees. I saw a nice fox squirrel 15 yards away. I took out a field tip and took the shot. POW the arrow hit him hard and the squirrel didn't even move. The arrow just stuck in him. He was about 3 feet off the ground on the side of a tree. The arrow was a lower body shot. The squirrel ran up the huge oak tree with the arrow sticking out of him. he tried to get into his hole. He couldn't because of the arrow.:) I waited for close to 2 hours for him to come/fall down and he never did. I though a field tip would be plenty to take a squirrel out but I guess not. I'm going to go back out tomorrow to retrieve the arrow and squirrel cabob.

I hope huntings going better for the rest of the team.
KK

OH MY WI!!! I also thought you were going to be posting good news...[&o] That's a terrible thing to hear (and feel). Even so it sure is great that your boy was there to get you out. He definitely is a hero. Can't imagine sitting out there all day not being able to move. Gives me shivers thinking about it.
Perhaps you might be healed up enough to get back out there. If you lived near here we could park you in our 'mud' room with full view of the woods. We could give you the electric heater, blanket and rifle... I wish you a speedy recovery...

Well thanks to the rut starting, I got myself a nice heavy doe today at 10 a.m. I was feeling a little bored and discouraged because I hadn't seen anything all morning. I moved from one location to another and sat down in this log pile (has a place that you can sit and lean back like in a recliner). I was also contemplating shooting a squirrel out of boredom. I could here the turky hunters blasting away all over in the distance. Suddenly I look up to see a deer coming thru some heavy stuff. At first I thought it was a buttonbuck but then she came into the open at about 10-15 yards. Nice full-size doe complete with tongue hanging out and heavy breathing. She looked at me and then looked behind her - there was a buck coming thru the brush. I had to make a quick decision on doe or buck. I looked at the buck but it appeared he was only a 6 point (not legal here). So I turned back to her and she was passing to my left. I drew the bow back and let the arrow fly. She went only 15-20 yards then wobbled and fell over dead. So then the buck turns to follow her. He hung around for almost a half hour going in circles around her. Then he left and came back again. It gave me a chance to check him out with my binoculars. Turns out he was a 7 point. He'll be around again as I know where he's been bedding. I did see a nice 8 point yesterday morning and evening. The action is getting hot here so next week is going to be great.

P.S. I couldn't find my arrow, as it must be buried in the leaves....

Dog-gone it WI, I feel bad for ya!!![&o][&o][&o]

Congrats Jen on your big doe. I was ready to take one today if they would have been moveing. Your shot must have been a good one (15-20 yards). Its exciting to watch them crash.
Good luck on going after the 7 and 8 pointers.

KK, thanks on the doe...
I forgot to mention that I thought it was pretty funny about that squirrel. I can picture it running up the tree with the arrow:D. The squirrels around here are very plentiful. I have my eye on a very big red squirrel with a tail as thick as a foxes...

By the way, it was 70 degrees and windy here today. Very warm for us this time of year but with the rut on I guess it didn't bother the buck very much[&:]

Good luck guys!

Thanks guys and gal. Some of the responces I got have me thinking. My son is such a great kid. He has offered to take me to any one of several gound spots we have used and drop me off. He would leave me there with my bow. Then if I get one I would call him and he would leave his stand to come get it. It I don't then he would just come back with the atv and pick me up. All I have to do now is get this thing healed enough that I can keep it down. Seems when I put the foot down all the blood rushes to it. I hope the circulation returns soon.

And DC I know the good Lord had a hand in this. It showed me what I already knew about Matt but I don't know that he knew it. Also it has showed me how much everyone in my life really does love me. My wife and daughter have been so helpful trying to make sure I have everything I need. Seems sometimes I can take these things for granted. Guess I shouldn't be doing that anymore.

Good luck to all of you out there. Just watch the footing. It can happen so fast. I'll keep checking the boards. Not like I have much else to do.[:o]

Kardkutter88 11-02-2004 08:25 PM

RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread

WI, Matt knows how much you love to hunt, I'm sure he'll do what ever he can to help you out. Just think, if it wasn't for you he most likely wouldn't be a hunter.

Well, I got out in the stand today in between the rains in the afternoon. I had the same 5 pt buck 20 yards away. I let him walk again....... about 30 minutes later I had a fork run up on me at 10 yards away I didn't even have enough time to stand before he took off. 30 minutes later the fork came back and was broad side to me 10 YARDS away. His head was behind a tree and he stood there for 2-3 minutes. He was a decent sized deer but the score would have been 30-40. If it would have been a weekend morning I'da taken him. I'm waiting for the larger ones. In years past I've had 70-100 near me. I hope their still around.
I heard another hunter rattleing about 100 yards away from me, first time i'd heard or seen a hunter on the property adjacent to mine.
I didn't find my arrow or the squirrel for that matter. I'd say the squirrel died and a coyote ran off with both the squirrel and arrow[:@].

Sorry for the long post, I just had a blast hunting today. Next day will be Thursday.
Cooler weather's around the corner!!!

RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread

The bucks are definitely on the move. I have seen more bucks than does during the last few days. At least now I know that there are at least 3 legal bucks cruising the property - the 7 point that came in with my doe, a nice 8 point I seen on the 29th & 1st, and one today that was an 8+ with long tall tines. Yesterday I had a 6 pointer walk all around me at about 10 yards. He never even looked at me - he was on a mission.
When I visited my parents on Sunday we seen a huge buck that was at least a 10 pointer going up and down the field just below their house. I am allowed to hunt this farm so I am planning a trip possibly this week. I usually don't hunt there until the rifle season but since I used my doe tag for this area I have another one for that area. Actually, there are still 1000's of doe tags available for that area since it is in the Pittsburgh area WMU. Anyway, I'm not crazy about hunting this farm as it is mostly hill and hard to get around - they don't actually farm it anymore. Last year we seen an even bigger buck and as far as we know no one got him. It will be exciting to hunt there as it is a change of area with the prospect of a really nice buck.

P.S. My uncle just mangled his little VW last night by hitting a deer. I haven't heard yet if it was a buck or doe...

Hey everyone you all seem to be seeing some nice deer. Stay at it and we will get more points on the board.

Jen - BE CAREFUL walking around in those hills. I can tell you that I NEVER thought it could happen to me. Well it did.

Anyway I got my first cast on today. They told me I should be able to keep my foot down in the next week or two. As soon as I can do that I think I will have Matt haul me out to the fields. I got to see the x-rays today with all the hardware. I guess I have to metal strips (plates) and a total of 12 screws.

Well looks like I will be at the cabin this weekend. Matt wants to hunt the rut and he is going to take me out there with him. I won't be hunting yet but it will be nice to at least be back out there.

Good luck all and thanks for all the well wishes.

Howdy from East Texas. I hunted last weekend, one eve & one morning. Nothing! I'm right in the middle of an acorn storm, lots of sign, hunting high. Haven't seen a deer since the second week of October. The Youth deer hunting weekend was Oct 30-31, my grandson Patrick age 12 nailed a beautiful 10 point buck- his first deer using his H&R 30-30.

Well fellow team mebers My luck is changing. I have been seeing more bucks and does over the last couple hunts. I have been using a decoy over the past couple days and have had some very interesting reactions from the bucks and does. I did see a very large body deer Tuesday night that was workign a scrap. I could not see the rack due to leaving the binos on the ground But the he must have been 250-300lbs. He did not see my decoy before ducking into the brush. I sat on him wed eve and called in to small bucks a 8pt and a 7 pointer. All came right in and stopped by the decoy with a OH Chit look on them. I ended up shooting a Large Doe just at dark and she went out into the flooded bottons. I thought I hit her in the sweet spot. I located my arrow in the water with a some blood still left on it. I then heard her splashing about 30yrds away. I left her until morning. When I returned this morning. the water had come up 5-10 ft and the water was waist deep in most of the bottoms. I swam around for 2 hrs and never located her. I fugured the current sweep her away or she is under water in all the weeds. Any suggestions. I never seen any blood due to the water.

etw - congratulations to your grandson! That must have been something to get a deer like that as a first buck.... I'm still working on mine...

BLKLAB - that's tough luck on your doe. I guess by now it would be too late for recovery anyhow. Of course, had it been a buck I would have put put a drag line!:D

Yesterday evening and today we had very high winds. I've been seeing a lot of deer but they seem to be the same ones every day - except for the occasional buck that wonders by in the distance. AS I was going in for the evening I watched a turkey fly up to roost. I thought maybe I would go out this morning with the shotgun and see if I could get it.
Woke up this morning and the wind was blowing. I do not like to hunt in wind like that so I didn't go. Went to Wallyworld in the afternoon and got a new fleece camo jacket and headcover.:) Came home just in time to run up the hill into the woods. I am glad I did. The neighboring farmer was cutting the remaining corn and I am very happy about that - now the deer have to bed in the woods. So, his tractor was leaving off all this diesel stink and the deer did not mind. I had a 3 point walk right by at about 8 feet. He was eating these long pointy green weeds off the ground. I gotta look those up to see what they were. Then I seen another deer that was either a BB or doe. THEN I SEEN THE BIG BOY! I'm about 50 yards into the woods but with my binoculars I could see this deer with giant horns standing at the edge of the field. I am not lying when I say that he's got G-2's at least a foot long! My heart was ready to bust just thinking that he might come in and walk by me. He never did but I sure am happy to know that he is still out there. You can guess where I will be tomorrow evening!!!!

I feel bad for you guys not seeing anything. If there was a way to beam you up here for a hunt I would!:D All I can do is wish you the best of luck and hope that the rut gets the deer moving for you.

Sorry to ramble, but I was so excited!!!

I seen 1 shooter Buck at work this morning on the Cameras chasing a Doe and 3 more shooters on the way home running the does. Unfortunatly I am not allowed to hunt the grounds at work. I decided to go home and sleep and hit it in the evening. So I Went out again lastnight and seen a little Doe but no Bucks. I was kinda shocked that nothing was moving after what I seen in the morning, I did something I have never done and that was the use of a drag line with Doe Urine. I didn't know what to expect. either way Only one deer and nothing else moving. the wind was blowing pretty hard which did not help the situation. Oh well will try again.

Well I'm going out again today to try to bag something before shot gun season opens. The gun season lasts 3 weeks and then 3 weeks of muzzel loader. I have to wear something orange during this time. I ended up seeing a large doe and 2 yearlings Thursday evening. I was out for 2 hours while it was drizzleing the whole time. I hope I get something. I don't gun hunt so i'll be arrowing something hopefully. I am planing on going out at least twice over Saturday and Sunday.

I hope everyone gets Lucky

RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread

Well, things are winding down here season-wise. Tomorrow is the last day for archery - then we have a two week break until the gun season starts on the 29th. I have hunted just about every day since Oct. 2nd and I am exhausted. I will put in my last day but I am feeling bummed out. I was sure I was going to get a buck during the regular archery season. I'm only bummed out about not getting a buck. I can't complain about not seeing any deer - as I look back over the season I was lucky to have seen deer every day I went out. Some people are not even seeing deer... I did get a nice doe and I am ever thankful for that.
Now, I know you all are going to want me to use my bow during the gun season but I'm not sure I want to. I get awful cold when I have to sit still during the really cold days. It is almost unbearable, especially since I do not have any camo for freezing weather. At least during the gun season I can get up and move around. If we have some warmer days then I will go with the bow. I am mainly hunting to fill the freezer.
The other day I had an interesting encounter with a deer. When I was going to my ground blind before light I spooked some deer. There were at least three deer. As I passed thru the area I could really smell the deer - it smelled just like a bottle of Tinks. Anyway, this one doe did not spook. She stayed within 30 yards of where I went. I get to my blind and she just walks around and begins eating the leaves off wild raspberry canes. Now it is getting light out. She knows I am there as she watched me come in and she watched me get set in my blind, however she decides to bed down. Eventually I forgot about her. Around noon time I decided to get up and go over to the edge of the property to hang a couple of No Trespassing signs. Anyway, I walked up to about 15 feet of this doe crunching leaves all the way. She at least gets up but then just stands there and looks at me. I couldn't shoot her cause I already used my tag for this area. Oh well, I decide to hang my sign. I walk over and hang the sign making all kinds of noise. The doe is still there watching and eating leaves. What a dumb doe! I wonder if she is retarded, half blind or deaf? I leave the area and go back in for lunch and she just stands there. Why couldn't that doe be a nice buck?
Ok guys, you can yell at me now. Use the bow, use the bow!!!!

RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread

Well Jen if I'd had a gun this morning I would have bagged a nice 8pt maybe 80-90 inch. I missed on it at 25-30 yards. Just low. He just kept walking. I did see a doe at 80 yards, it was grazing and decided to bed down when the buck walked by. It was there until my cousin walked up on me. He had hit a doe with a muzzelloader at 6:10 in the morning. He tracked it into a neighbors property so he wanted me to help. We found the deer 20 yards into the thicket. A nice large doe. Its stomac was really bloated. We drug the deer out with his ATV. My cousin kept saying how much work his thumb was doing:D. I've never had to drag a deer out:). I'll be back out tonight and tomorrow morning and evening if i don't get anything.
We took the deer to a deer processor. I saw 12 bucks. One was a typical 10 with two identical brow tines on both sides. Most were small though.

back to hunting in a bit.
I'm wanting a deer badly but I'll just keep using my bow and putting in my time.
I'm needing a deer!!!
see ya

Hey I finally got one tonight. Its a whopper!! (sarcasim) As I said in my previous post I missed a 8pt this morning. Well I got a 5 pt tonight. Small fork with one browtine and the other one was broken. I had a horrible shot, I hit him in the hind[:@][:@]. He walked and stumbled 20 yards and laid down for 5 minutes and then got back up slowly and walked 15 yards and stood still. I knew he was hurt and it was 10 minutes till dark. After 20 minutes I got down out of the stand and walked slowly toward him. I got up to it and he was still breathing so I stuck him again. I can't beleive he only made it 50 yards from the stand:):). It was fine with me. It was weird that my cousin hits a deer in the middle of his body right in back of his front shoulder and it makes it 150+ yards and I hit a deer in a horrible shot and it goes 50 yards. Tonight I was bow hunting and 2 others were gun hunting and I'm the only one to get one!:)
Well I have more meat for the freezer:) Not a trophey[:o], and I didn't even hurt my truck:D:D

I'll post the pic when I get it developed (I don't have a digital) and the score of it. I'm guessing 30-40 inchs.[:o] I'm shooting for having this done by Friday.

Good luck everyone,

RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread

Congratulations on your buck KardKutter! He doesn't have to be a whopper to be a trophy. I would have been very happy to get him.
I was wondering what you meant when you say you hit him in the hind. You hit him in the gut, rump, or right up the rear? The doe I got this year was actually a bad shot - I hit just behind the stomach somehow missing the intestines. However it sliced that main artery there right in half. My doe was only about 15 feet in front of me but she was moving and that is where the mistake was in my shot placement. I chalk up the experience to the excitement of it all. How can you make the perfect shot when you're so excited?

For my last day today (for now) I did manage to see 4 does and three small bucks. There was nothing all morning so I decided to go stalking to keep warm. I climbed the far hill to where there is some really thick stuff. I never really hunted there this year because the wind is always blowing the wrong way. Anyway, I said what the heck and went up. Soon as I got there I seen movement. They were in there all right. I almost got busted by what looked like a forky miising one antler. I just stood like a statue and he eventually walked off. Then I had a doe bed down about 15 feet in front of me behind a tree. Since I couldn't shot her anyway I decided to see how close I could get - turned out to be about 8 feet. She jumped up and kept looking at me. She couldn't figure me out so she kept circling, looking & stomping. Finally she walked away. What a thrill to have a deer that close and not get spooked. Next week I'm going hunting with my camera to see what I can get. I also got to see Limpy Leg (a 5 point with bad leg). He was with a 3 point at the edge of the woods. The 3 point was freshening a scrape then both of them began to crash a little with their antlers. Poor Limpy Leg has no chance in sparring. At least he has fattened up and hopefully should make it thru the winter. You guys probably never read my threads about him, so if you're interested:

Well, now I am looking forward to the gun season. I have extra doe tags for another management area where I will go to help my brother to get his deer. He has a slight problem and is also color-blind so it is very hard for him to track if the deer runs off. As I said, if the weather is warmer here I will take my bow out again. I can also bowhunt in our late season which is Dec. 27 thru Jan. 15.

As for our team... Well, we are on the board and thanks to Kardkutter we will be moving up the scoreboard a bit. There are still 8 of us to score (even you WIhunter!) so don't count us out yet. It's just a slow start. Some of you guys haven't even hunted thru the rut yet. Being on a team has certainly made the season a little more exciting.

How's your leg doing WI?

Jen - Thanks for asking about the leg. So far everything is going slow. I still cannot put the foot down without it swelling. It doesn't hurt it just swells. I have not been cleared to go back to work yet. I will be doing some gun hunting this next weekend because I can do that from the cabin. This is going to be a slow process but I just want to make sure I can do everything normal once this is done. As for you taking the bow out during the gun season, do what YOU want. If you don't get out with the bow that is fine. This contest is just about fun. And fun I have had. Oh I forgot to mention that your buck (Limpy Leg) is just like a doe we had running around on our place. We called her Lefty because that was her only good leg. I think a neighbor got her as part of the earn a buck. We were seeing her almost every weekend and now we haven't seen her since the end of Sept.

Kard - Congrats on the buck. Any deer with a bow is a trophy. Do NOT feel bad. This season has changed my way of thinking a lot. Getting out with family is the most important thing. You harvested a buck and that is truely a great accomplishment.

I also wanted to let everyone know that my son was rewarded for his effort helping me with a nice 8 point Saturday. It was his 4th deer with a bow and his first buck with a bow. He is on team 10 and we hope to be posting a score and pictures later tonight. His user name is hoyt14. He made a perfect double lung shot. Everytime I think I couldn't be more proud of him he goes and proves me wrong. After we cut up the buck my wife called with his first quarter grades. He got a 3.5 GPA which puts him on the high honor role. My daughter also made the high honors with a 3.563. She is a Freshman and he is a Junior.

On another note about this contest. It has added in a very positive way to my season. For the first time I have been able to share my season with someone other then family. We hunt on family only land so I really don't have any hunting friends that I hunt with. Most of the people I work with don't hunt so this contest has been a great way to get to know others that love this sport. If I could I would love to have this same team next year. You all are a great group of guys and gal. As far as I am concerned we have already won.

Thank you all for your support with my bum leg. I hope to have it all back next year and I will have my vacation from this year carried over to next year. Guess I will have 20-25 days of vacation next fall. I only have to wait another 10 months.[:o] I also may get out late season. Our bow goes until Jan. 2. Not sure if I will get out much. Really depends on the weather. If it is too cold I won't. I will keep posting and let you know how it goes.

Well good luck all of you. It's not over yet.

Hello everyone! Well I just got done scoring my rack and I came up with 64 7/8. This was a lot larger then I expected. Come to find out its my largest buck I've gotten so far by over 10 inches. I almost had my cousin just cut the antlers off at the base. Good thing he cut into the skull;).
The shot that took him was a horrible shot. The deer was 20 yards away walking away from me not quite fully quartering. My arrow hit him in the right ham the penitration was half the arrow. It went in at an angle and all 3 blades of the broad head opened. the blood was runing down my arrow pretty good. I don't even think my arrow hit any guts. It was hard to tell because it was dark out when I gutted it.
I can still take another buck this year because I live in an Urban deer zone whic means that the buck I took would fall under that classification. I'd only take a buck if it was a biggen.
I just found out that my cousins going to be moven[:@]. I'm going to lose my #1 hunting location. 20 acres of woods with plenty of deer. I guess its time to start looking around for so more land.
I'm going to be starting a different job on Monday. It'll be a bit tougher then my current job of putting out traffic counters. I'll be wirering up PLC's aka motor controls for fairly large motors. Pay will be better and I'll be gaining the much needed experience.

WI, I feel the same way. This contest has been really great. Its forced me to keep a bit of a journal. Which is good for me because I've never kept one.
WI, congratulation on your son's grades and his awesome first bow buck. And your daughters grades as well.
Jen, good luck on getting a buck or doe with a gun.
Tonight I'll be cutting up 2 deer but we'll have 5 people so it shouldn't take more then 2 hours. Well plus the drinking of course. Not too much though.:D
I dropped off the pictures today so Friday night or Saturday during the day I'll submit my buck.
The rut is still on Good luck everyone

Hi all sorry I havent posted in a long time, trouble with the puter. I can say this has been one of the best archery seasons I ever had without shooting a Buck {yet} I seen a boatload of bucks, big and small. I almost had a shot at a real nice 10pt at 12yards if it only took two more steps from behind that cedar[:@] Seen a buck chaseing a doe that ran by my stand that had to be at least 14pts no lie. I almost fell out of my stand. Could have shot a buck with 4pts on one side an 2pts on the other two times on this buck, he was a big body deer. The day after the Lunar Eclips two weeks ago was awsome , the deer were going BONKERS that day. Thats the day I almost had that 10pt. I think the next Lunar Eclips is 2007 I think. I know i will be in the woods that day. I seen Bucks chaseing does all day. It was a great first season, shot two doe for meat ,but no buck holding out for Mr BIG .If I don;t shoot that 10pt or 14pt or anyother big buck during shotgun season I still have late archery season to try to score for the team:) CONGRATS KardKutter on your Buck and I hope your feeling better WIhunter402, your son is a great Kid !! Goodluck to the rest of my teammates HUNT HARD AND BE SAFE!!!!! IT'S NOT OVER YET

Way to go Kard.:D Glad you remembered to take the picture. Looks like a nice buck.

Just to update everyone on my leg. Looks like the cast will come off on Dec. 1st. Then I will get a walking boot for 4 to 6 weeks. I am thinking I will try to get out for some of the late season. Most of the bucks have gone nocturnal but you never know. Our bow season runs until Jan. 3 but so does the gun season because of the CWD unit I am in.

WI - Glad to hear that you leg is getting better. That's all that matters.

I've been having hunting withdrawal. I went out one day last wek looking for a turkey but I guess they were on the other hill that day. Can't hunt again until the 29th. Then it will be gun season and it will sound like the 4th of July. On the first day I usually set up in a low area where it's safer. One part of our property is where two hills come together. It's all woods but like a canopy on one side - you can see everything underneath for 100 yards at least. It's a good spot there because the neighbors push the deer in from all angles and then they head towards the thick stuff for cover. Either me or the hubby will be waiting at the edge of the thick stuff.

HAVE A HAPPY THANKSGIVING GUYS!

Well everyone how is the hunting going? Jen - have you gotten back out yet? I know what you mean about the withdrawal. Just seems like this time of year should be spent in the woods. Not much else just wanted to see what everyone was up to. Good luck to all of you that are still getting out.
