RE: Team 5

I finally decided against the bow. I'm going to keep the High Country for one more season, and pick up on Mathew's newest bow for 05'.

The guy just didn't want to help work me a deal after I went to the shop and discussed what I wanted to do. But the deer sign is great here, and I have been viewing several buck's. I also finally finished up work, and I'll have most of the winter to hunt. Now I'm just counting down.......

OH YEAH! UPS man was just here....dropped me off my new Cabela's Dry Plus Fleece w/ Scent Lok! Things are definetly looking up....

Oct 9....the squack's get it....

Oct 16....the rack's get it.....

Well team members I went out last night for the first day of our bow season, I saw a nice 3x3 but not worth shooting since I know there is a nbigger one that I have scouted. Well anyway after he went thru I saw another deer coming on the same trail as the buck, I have a doe tag for this area and wanted some meat so I drew on her, I looked at her and kept thinking man that doe is huge. Well she stopped at 35 yards and I put my pin right where i wanted it and released, TWACKKKK and she dropped right there in her tracks. Well I am kinda excited because of the miss I had in Idaho and this being my new bow and not wanting to keep those bad missing habits. Well I climb down out of the tree and go over and find that being the deer was actually higher than I was on the hill when I shot the arrow traveled up and severed the spine, well unfortunately it turned out to be a button buck right around 185lbs, this thing is huge. I will have pics for you later today when I get them downloaded. Just wanted to let ya know how my first night went. Pat

Wow that is huge! Bring on them pics. I saw a couple does but no bucks this weekend. It was great to be out of the city though. I feel refreshed.

Hopefully I'll get to run up to my girl's house this week and use her scanner to put up the pic's from my game cam. I finally got a Moultrie Cam and it works great. I got a pic of a nice 8pt(nothing huge) and a 4pt. All pic's from her back yard. LOL. There is also some interesting pic's including a fat button buck.

I'll get the pic's up this week so you guys can see what I mean. I did get the chance to put the cam up at my main hunting area. Should know something Wenesday on what kind of deer are frequenting the area. I also scouted a new area that seems to have a ton of potential for a good buck. I'll definetly be splitting my hunting time in several area's this year, and the chances for a good buck are good.

I've also kept up a good practice routine every other evening, to keep good aim. :D

Should be good this season. And congrat's on the huge button buck.

**Also, are we going to get a new logo, or shall I try to design one formyself for general use.

Can't wait to see the pics, Highcountry.

UGGGHHHH!!!! Darn Suburban bucks!!!!

I had to go in to work on Sunday Morning to catch up on some things so I got up at 5:00 and left the house at 5:30. Going up the main collector road between two developments I see a very large racked deer, looked like a 5x5, as symetrical looking as it gets. It probably just came out of one small patch of suburban woods and ducked into another. There is no way that I or anyone else could ever hunt either wood lot because they are so small and right between rows of houses.

That's the fourth really nice buck I have seen this year, all of which would easily make the P&Y book. I just hope that this is a year where I see a lot of nice ones but don't get any of them. UUGGGHHH!!! I'm still hunting hard and trying to reduce my mistakes. Hopefully one of them will make a mistake sooner or later.

...Well somebody had to do it....[&:]... I probably dropped the string to soon for the contest but a wise lawyer once told me ($10,000.00 later), never bet on the come, take the sure thing, so in this case I did. I have a second tag so only time will tell if I cost us or not.

At least we now have a score although it isn't the highest (133 6/8). I am counting on the rest of you guys coming through with some horns, so don't let me down. I will be perfectly happy to have the lowest scoring buck on our team [8D].

In reality if we can get everybody to "tag out" we should be in great shape for the contest.

I will be dropping in from time to time to see how you all are doing. I guess I am stuck being the official cheerleader from here on out.:D GO LUNG BUSTERS!!! (Ouch, I think I just pulled a hamstring!! ;) )

Really not much of a story to tell. I shot him behind my house (gotta love those land owner tags). He never knew I was there. I had some problems with some small branches in the way that caused the arrow to hit back farther than I wanted, but at less than ten yards even I have a hard time goofing up the shot.

Because he was in the company of another buck I almost waited to long to shoot. My experience has been the smaller animal is usually the first in line when they stop out, so when this one walked out, and I heard another animal in the brush, I waited to see how big the second animal was. As fate would have it, it was a much smaller buck. By this time, the bigger buck had walked past my shooting lane and into a plum thicket not quite ten yards away. He stopped in an area where there was an opening that gave a very small but clear passage to his vitals, no problem. What I didn't consider was the viciousness of the wind. When I let the shot go from twenty feet up, the cross wind caused the arrow to fishtail some, which in turn caused it to catch the edge of the branches hence making the shot impact farther back than I wanted. I was concerned so I gave him plenty of time to expire. Obviously it had a happy ending for everyone except the buck. ;)
