With the deer I saw this weekend while dusting some doves I cannot wait until the opener on 2 Oct. I think there will be some impressive deer taken this year. Let's put it to them.

This will be different for me because I'm usually just a meat hunter. But to help the team I'm going to have to look for horns this year. I can't wait to see how it turns out.[:-]

You might be suprised gutshot, I'm originaly from PA and was always under the impression you had to shoot the first buck that walked by no matter how big or small. The last few years I have been more selective and it has paid off. One day last year in the begining of November, I passed up 6 bucks in a morning before the 7th buck came by, it was a nice 8pt. If I would have shot one of those dinky spikes I never would have got the big boy, plus he was a bigger deer so I got more meat anyway....its a win win situation!!!!

Go get em, RTA. I was going to try to get out in the next week or so but I can't fit it into my schedule. The earliest I have time to is Oct. 8 in the morning providing I get to bed at a decent hour. I may get to hunt the evening as well. Other then that the only other time I have right now is the end of October. Don't worry, the petting zoo is full of bucks.:D

I have 23more days till october 2nd, i wish i could kill one in velvet just to have one mounted in velvet, that would be great. I just washed all my clothes last night in scent away and put them in plastic bags, cant wait!

Hey guys, sorry about not posting but been spending most of my time in the woods and by the time I get home I am so exhausted and then do it again the next day. I had a "Murphys Law" this week and feel just about sick to my stomach on what happened and just as soon as not talk about it at this time until I am not so mad at myself. Shet!!! [:@] [:'(].
I have been seeing a lot of deer but only two that I would shoot at, just about an hour and a half ago there were two small bucks, a 2 pointer and a 3 sparing within 30 yards of my back door, but I 've been doing most of my hunting 6 miles up the mountain where some big-boys are, keep your fingers crossed and good luck guys, ;) >>>----- Bobby------>

good luck!-121553!-My opening day came sat-7.35AM just got on the stand when i looked back the same way i came in and there was a small eight pt. standing there! about 20yrds. from me! And how he got there beats me? i never heard anything. The ground is damp? But he was not very big so i just watched him for a while until he moved on. About 5 min went buy when this nice fat doe comes up;) its only about 7:50am well i like deer meat so[8D]? You guessed it! i shot her about 25yrds away and a complet passthrew;) she ran about 30 yrds before going down. I sat back down but saw nothing untill 10:00am another doe comes up? about 20yrds away but i let her walk buy after she left i got down and drug the one i shot out what a drag?[&:] I forgot just how heavy they can be buy your self:D Owell i went back sunday and only saw two does and two fawns milling around about 50yrds away and did not see any thing else. All and all i was happy just being out there hunting and being able to take a deer![8D] Look for me to post a good buck here mid nov-dec. Good luck to every one! RTA47.

RTA47 Congrats on the freezer meat. Keep the vigil. A nice big score to start off with will set the table.

I will be off the boards for a while due to work. I have some travel for work. I will be out the next two weeks and should be back the end of this month just in time to start our season. Good luck to all and hit 'em in the boiler room.

Well guys I get to start slinging arrows tomorrow morning. Not really expecting any big buck action yet but you never know, definitly will be taking the first fat doe that walks by. I will let you guys know how things go.

2 days of hunting, havnt had a doe come within range, had 5 different bucks within 10 yards, none of them shooters. It sure is nice being back in the woods and up in a tree again, I love this time of year.

Well team, totally against what I had anticipated. I usually expect to see a few nice bucks come late Oct. early Nov. But I was blesses with a early encounter with 2 nice animals within bow range. I had does around me feeding for a couple of hours but all just outside of my shooting lanes. Then a 30 minutes before sundown a shooter 8 point steps out from this swamp 35 yards from my stand. He was bedded the whole time not far from me. He no longer turns and starts heading straight at me and a larger buck walks out 5 yards behind him. I couldn't believe it. The 8 pointer had a tall rack I suspect a 3 year old deer maybe 120 class. He stopped 10 yards in front of me but looking behind me so I never would have had a shot plus the larger buck was 25 yards behind him staring same direction. He kept lip curling trying to scent something. I could not even blink for 17 minutes. Talk about crampage.

The wind was at my face so I knew I was safe for the moment when all of a sudden snorting from behind me. Repeatedly snorting the bucks just stood and stared in that direction behind me. Then after a few more long minutes the 8 pointer turned around and started walking the opposite direction but still broadside to me at 10 yards. He walked through my shooting lane but the larger buck remained motionless tasting the air.

After a few more minutes the larger buck put his head down and slowly started making his way closer to my stand. He was already in range but pointed directly at me. Then when he reached the same trail the 8 was on he turned the same way. I could not draw cause he would have surely picked me, but when he took a few more steps I came to full draw. When I reached my anchor point I took aim through the peep and his head was already beyond my lane. I quickly gave a mouth grunt and he stopped dead. Now I could only see a the back third of his body but the front third was behind a few small leafy tree twigs.

I sent the carbon arrow via Bowtech Patriot 72 pounds and I heard a thummm. Not the sound of a arrow hitting bone but the sound of a arrow working its way with a pass thru of the lungs. The buck bounded and I gave another mouth grunt to try and stop him. It worked, and a short time later I heard what sounded like him hitting the ground. Anyway, after saying a prayer to myself I waited for that 8 pointer to move on and I slipped out the back door slowly, and quietly. When I went back he was where I thought he was 30 yards from where I encountered him. I dont know what he will score for sure I will contact a official scorer this week. Hes not a Boone and Crocket but I couldnt pass him up. He is a magnificent trophy and I was truely thankful for the moment. Now I am in Aw cause it all is does only here on out with bonus tags. I saw a few large deer this summer but I would not have guessed on seeing one opening weekend. WOW . So I will start of the ELITE 8 with a 13 point deer. WHOOO HOOO!!!!!!!

Man talk about a late night butchering because of the heat. But got er all done. Let me see if I can post a pic here. Oh yeah how do you score split tines? Until official score is done I can do a rough score but I never scored a split tine. I am estimating 130s somewhere.

Alright Tribal. Way to break the ice. High fiver.;) I think your right, it looks 130's which is a P/Y, but that would depend on the deductions, but by looking at it, I think that your buck meets the score to qualify. ;) Either way, if all teamates got a 130, that would be very respectable come the end of the year for the team. Way to come though.
I be leaving for about two weeks guys for the central part of the state hunting mostly elk and antelope and maybe some mulies. Keep up the good work and I hope to be back in a couple of weeks. Good luck, Bobby
