Well team Here is my story! . I was sitting there saterday morning and around 8:45am I was not seeing much so i decided to use my grunt call? After hitting it 3 or 4 times i put it back up. Not more than one or two min had went buy when i heard something trotting, coming stright to me? Before i could even stand up there he was right in front of me 15 yards! Facing right at me. I new i could not move so i just sat there being still after about 30 sec he turnd his head to scratch his back, Thats when i stood up! he then turned and walk past a tree thats when i drew! Holding at full draw which seemed like forever! All i needed was one more step! Well he did take one more step. But i thought he was going to keep walking! So i grunted with my mouth. He stoped right in my shooting lane at around 18 yrds. I took aim and released the arrow hitting him perfect! He took off running crashing through the woods then i heard him fall! After waiting for a few min i climb down and after trailing him for about 60yrds i found him! HE is not huge but bad ether! I thought when i shot him he was a eight but he is only a six pt. He has no G1`s But the pic`s will show he not bad for a six pt. I will posting some "pics and scores" real soon. Glad i could help out the team. This buck will put us over the 400 mark Go team -8. WTG RTA. Saturday morning I had a about 100 class buck at 70-80 yards but I couldn't get him to come in. The rest of the day just slipped by quietly.

Well, a week off for hunting produced nothing. On the upside though, I believe I have a great set up and would appreciate any advice on how to handle hunts coming up. My friend came up from FL to experience his first bowhunt. I set him up in a honey hole so he would see deer. He sure did too - almost every day, several bucks at a time too, (all small 1-1/2 year old 4's and 6's). The stand is in a section of mature oaks 80 yards from a thick brushy area. There are two main trails coming into the hardwoods from the brush line, then split off into four separate trails leading into swamp, hardwoods, or more brush. The stand is close to the intersection where the trails meet. This section of woods isn't big, but the deer use it as a corrider from bedding to feeding, and has always been full of scrapes and rubs. I baited the area hoping to stop a doe or buck coming through to give my inexperienced friend more time for a shot. The deer have been slamming the pile. He didn't get a deer, but had a blast. Yesterday afternoon we went back to bait the pile (figured I'd keep it baited for me to hunt next weekend), and found three fresh scrapes all within 30 yards from the pile, one being only five yards from the pile setting up for an easy 25 yards shot. I assume one of the small bucks he'd been seeing all week put down the scrapes, but who knows for sure.

I've seen 130+ class 8pt. and 10pt. bucks in the area for three years now. Two summers ago I had a 10pt. in full velvet run across my back yard with 12"-14" tines. Last year I watched a monster 10pt. tend a doe for nearly 20 minutes within bow range (no shot because of course, they were behind me through thick brush). So hopefully there will still be a big boy or two lurking about this year.

So here's my plan: I'm going to keep the area baited since it seems to be drawing both doe and young bucks. Next hunt (a week away) I will walk to the stand with some estrus doe scent on a drag rag, then put the same scent on the scrape nearest the pile. I'll grunt and perhaps rattle a bit hoping to draw the big guy in. Should I handle this situation differently? Thanks for any advice.

Hi fiver to you Rta. Team is looking real good and glad to hear the great success. I been cold weather bowhunting in 3 to 6 inches of snow at the 5,500 ft elevation. Lots of buck activity around me as a buck got mad at a tree, just beneath my stand and shreaded it apart. Lots of signs in the snow and seeing deer, but not the quality I want too shoot. The rut is soon and maybe then. Good luck guys and way to do it team #8. Bobby
