Hey BM
I was reading back through the threads reading all the smack and saw the post where you mentioned the bucks you have taken. How come you don't have any of the posted in the gallery? Just a couple does and a small buck in there. I wanted to check them out. |
RE: Official Team "ILNYPAKY-EH "!!!! (4) Thread
all you illinois guys, have you noticed things are progressing slow? i only have found one more rub since last week, things are moving slow.. what happened to the "EARLY" rut? not too much activity really i am hoping this weekend will prove otherwise. will the rattling still work? have any of you rattled reasently? what other methods are you using to see more bucks?
good luck gentelmen, and lets get some more on the board here. :D and Buckeye! your done.. why are you still buggin us? ;):D |
RE: Official Team "ILNYPAKY-EH "!!!! (4) Thread
I rattled in a big bodied 6pt yesterday morning. He had a tiny tiny rack with a real curly G2 - kinda wierd!
I'm holding out for one of the monsters on my private property. I'll be hunting a special permit only hunt Dec 6 and 7 at a place that has never been open to hunting before. Supposedly, the next IL state record will come out of this park. So don't count me out until the end. I've seen a lot of good deer - just waiting for a real nice one. It wouldn't make sense to shoot a 6pt 100" when I have the chance at something massive later in the season. |
RE: Official Team "ILNYPAKY-EH "!!!! (4) Thread
The activity has kind of slowed down from the same time last week. Last week we seen many bucks trailing does. But then over the weekend we seen many bucks grouped up and not one chasing a doe.
Hopefully next week when I am on vacation, it will be hot hot hot!! |

Had another close encounter last evening with the same mature buck I was eye to eye with last week.
He and another buck were following a doe around in an open field while I was sitting on the ground. They stayed just out of range then walked off. Its frustrating hunting a wide open flat field without trees... but one day it will pay off. These bucks are BIG ;) |

Well fellas, my vacaton starts this afternoon. I will be hunting in the best part of the rut as far as I can tell. Bucks are chasing, scrapes are being hammered, and my dad arrowed a monster yesterday. After hour and hours of tracking...I think he is going to make it for a while. Never had any good blood, and dad spooked him 2 hours after the shot and he ran a mile across a field at full tilt. We got permission for that farmer to look in his property and we found a couple of spots of blood where it looked as if he layed down. Walked the whole timber and no deer. Spooked plenty out though, and he rocognized one of them as a possibility as his. Me and my buddy will do a little more looking over the weekend in hopes of finding him yet.

Hey guys, sorry I havn't been on in awhile, I have been busy with hunting and work! Tommorow is the last day of archery season here in PA and I am pulling out all the stops tommorow! I have decided that any legal buck is comming home as I will be hunting a new spot on a over-populated farm. The farmer gave me permission to hunt, but he knows that I usually pass up smaller bucks and he wanted me to promise him that I would just shoot any legal buck I saw as they are killing his crops! I agreed to help him out! There are some big bucks on this property, but with tommorow being my last day, I am looking to fill the tag. I really don't want to go out in rifle season (it gets a little scary when the orange army comes out) and late season is just down right un-comfortable!
I just got back from Wal-Mart where I was browseing the hunting section. I found a Ameristep Brickhouse TSC ground blind in the New Mossy Oak Break-Up pattern! It was on sale down to $99.00 which didn't seem bad, but while I was standing there, a guy came up and knocked the price down to $62.00 and I couldn't pass it up. I thought that Cabelas sold the blind for around $119.99. When I got home I checked the price and Cableas sells the exact same blind that I bought for $62.00 for $179.99! That is a savings of $117.99. I got the blind for almost 1/3 the price that Cabelas sells it! So, I will be setting this up tommorow morning in a grown up pasture surrounded by thick crab apple trees! There are scrapes all through the pasture and rubs on practically every tree surrounding it! I also purchased a Renzo feeding doe decoy! I will be putting a scent wick on it covered in Still Steamin Doe Estrus Urine. I have the H.S. Tru-Talker, Primos Can, and the H.S. Rattle Bag ready to go. Wish me luck guys, but if nothing pans out tommorow, I have all of rifle season to hunt with my bow, along with late archery season! |

RE: Official Team "ILNYPAKY-EH "!!!! (4) Thread
Well guys I went out friday morning to public ground and as I was hooking on my climber
I could hear hear a buck grunting and working over his scrape about 35 yards down. I could hear him walking around even after I got into position but it was 45min before shooting light. After the sun came up I never saw or heard anything else. That afternoon I went to a friends property and got in the stand about 2:45pm after an hour had passed I loooked through the woods about 80yards away I could see a big white tail slowly walking through the woods. The wind was blowing about 15-18mphaway from it so I didn't think that it would hear any of my calls, so I pulled out my rattle bag and hit it hard three times, it stopped and turned sideways trying to figure out where i was. As it turned all I could see was the left main beam I could see three BIG points. He stands there for a minute and I hit the bag three more time and then tried to grunt, when I did he started into a run like he was going to take care of business but he cut across the woods away from me and into a cut bean field 200yards away. I did get a little better look at his rack I believe he is a big eight point I left my bino's in the truck like an idiot. I never did see him again. I'm going back this afternoon and changing stand locations to catch him cutting the corner of the woods. I know from talking with people out here that there are at least 3 big bucks using this travel route. |
RE: Official Team "ILNYPAKY-EH "!!!! (4) Thread
Good luck with him hammer, hope ya get a crack at him:)
Well i'm just getting in from my morning hunt and nodda, zilch, didn't see anything.I did hear 2 bucks fighting down by the lake im sure but they wouldent respond to me.I also heard wolves howling behind me this morning at first light for about 15 min.I was waiting for one of them to scare a deer my way.I also had 2 chickadees land on me-lol--one on my leg and the other on top of my head, sat there for about 10 seconds then flew off,had to check face mask to make sure it didn't crap on me-----lol.It was also so cold out my hands and feet were frozen, but all in all it was a beautiful morning.:) |
RE: Official Team "ILNYPAKY-EH "!!!! (4) Thread
Well guys,
Yesterday was a disaster! I got set-up in the morning at around 5:30a.m. and sat there until it got light enough to shoot at about 6:40 a.m. It looked like the absolute perfect day! The temp was in the low to mid 20's when I left and there was a slight wind from the northwest! I sat there with great anticipation as to what would be moving. Well, at 7:00 a.m. I heard some loud talking on the other side of the woods and I didn't think anything of it. After about 5 minutes I heard a pack of beagels just let out. Two rabbit hunters with 9 beagels were working the brush on the other side of the woods. This got me excited as it is a major bedding area for deer and I was set-up right at a major escape route! Well, then my luck turned for the worse as the hunters set the dogs out through a cut powerline in the middle of the woods right towards me! They were working the brush no more than 100 yards from me! I sat for awhile and saw a bunch of deer bust out of the woods and head through the golden rod field and up over the hill! I knew that one was a buck and a nice one at that, but I couldn't tell much about him! That afternoon I went and set-up my blind in a clearing that is surrounded by x-mas trees! The clearing was planted in wheat and usually gets a good bit of deer moving through it! Well, I got my blind set up at about 2:25 p.m and at about 4:00 p.m. (when deer activity starts), I had a guy on a dirt bike come down the old logging road about 80 yards to my left! I sat there till dark and didn't see a thing! Well, I went spotting last night where I saw the deer run in the morning and I saw the group! There were 8 does and a buck. The buck was a BIG 8 point. He had probablly a 20-21" outside spread, his brow tines were probablly 6", his G-2's were probablly in the 10" range and his G-3's were probablly in the 7" range. Great mass and HUGE main beams! He was running all the does back into that patch of woods! I guess that the only positive thing is that I know another big buck has moved into my honey hole (where my best-friend shot his buck). I actually think that the buck I saw last night was related to the buck my bestfriend shot! He had the same style anters, but the buck I saw last night was a good bit bigger! Rifle season starts Nov.29th and I will be set-up in there with my bow in hand! I will be sitting in the stand where I shot my doe this year (which is the same stand my best-friend got his buck from this year). It is probablly the best spot to be! It is on a old 4-wheeler trail running through the woods that is surrounded on 3 sides by bedding area! To the east, the woods lead out into a golden rod field. That trail is a major travel area for deer, especially when the woods surrounding this area get pressure! |

Had an exciting day yesterday. A buddy and I rattled in several bucks - 1 very large 12pt he's been hunting all season. No deer down but was still a good day. Sat on stand all day from dawn to dusk. Spent most of that time watching a buck mounting a doe off and on about 2 miles away in the center of a cut bean field. Binoculars are great.
Had several deer throughout the day come through. 1 shooter buck stopped broadside in my lane but was 10 yards too far for a good shot :( Heading back out now to sit the rest of the today. Good luck everyone! |
RE: Official Team "ILNYPAKY-EH "!!!! (4) Thread
Well guys, yesterday on my first day of my vacation I blew my first shot on a nice buck. I misjudged the yardage and shot a little high. On top of that, he ducked my arrow. When he jumped back up the arrow actually bounced off of his back. No broadhead cutting of any sorts, my arrow deflected up in the air and out in the field. About a hour after that a coyote came in and I was just POed enough that I let him have it. He is laying in my garage waiting to be skinned out.
Last night I headed up north with a buddy of mine and we seen 0, notta, zippo zilch...no deer. But we seen a lot of turkeys and had some with in 60 yards, but they just turned and went anther direction. This morning yielded worse results than last night. Absolutley nothing, just a squirrel. But things are a changing and I don't know how much hunting I will get to do. They took my grandmother to the hospital last night and now she is on life support and the plug may be pulled at any time. But I plan on hunting unless the family lets me know other wise. Maybe I can score one in her honor!! |

ORIGINAL: hammerman I'm going back this afternoon and changing stand locations to catch him cutting the corner of the woods. I know from talking with people out here that there are at least 3 big bucks using this travel route. on a side note, one of the better propertys i have just got sold. so i have excatly one week to get crap taken out of there. they are probably going to clear cut it and build houses on it.. [:@] glad you guys are seeing lots of bucks, i rattled in a little 5 pointer sunday, but the best thing is i saw a 12 pointer which was easily 150 class, walking down the road on my way to go hunting in the afternoon on sunday.. HUGE guy.. im gonna ask permission to hunt the field that i saw him cross. hopefully i get the OK. been seeing more rubs and a scrape, and the bucks seem to respond to the rattling more now. we should be getting some bucks here soon. :D good luck guys |

extreme, yep, archery season is over for now.
Early Archery: Oct 2nd-Nov 13th Rifle Season: Nov. 29-Dec 11th Late Archery: Dec 27-Jan 15th! We still have alot of time left! I have got my eye on a monster 8 point (probablly gross in the low 140's as an 8 point). He is bedding in a small patch of brush in the middle of a golden rod field! I will be set-up about 120 yards from where he beds on the first day of rifle with bow in hand. The woods I am hunting are going to be barren except for me and the property around me gets hunted hard! Every deer that gets bumped off these property's runs down into my 'honey hole"! |

This is a little 5 point I shot, and while skinning it, I found a b-head and two pumpkinballs in it. It had puss pockets in it, so I called the PGC and they came and got the deer and replaced my tag! Our deepest sympathies IBM,our prayers go out to you,and your family.
I was out hunting all day yesterday and I think someone upstairs was trying to tell me I was waisting my time---lol.First of all the alarm didn't go off and i was a little late getting in my stand. Then to make matters worse,it was real foggy and everything was wet.Anyways I am sitting in my stand, rattling and grunting periodically, then about 8:00 rolles around and im looking down the hardwoods into a swamp thicket where the deer like to travel to and from.I decide to take a look behind me and then off to my left and when I do a small 8 point is standing on the trail maybe 20 yards looking in my direction. This is the same trail I came down to get in my stand. We have a stare down for about 2 min and he decides to head back into the pines where he came from, I gave it a couple grunts and he looks my way and just keeps walking---bummer I said. Now if it had of been cooler and dry then I would have heard him come and been ready for him.Not sure if i would have shot him anyways,he was a young one,but still would have like to been prepaired.Remember it was a little foggy at this point, the leaves were wet so you couldent hear anything walking and water dripping from the trees constantly. Now it only gets worse------------At 2:15 my buddy meets me at the gate for an afternoon hunt.We are getting dressed in the field discussing where we will be sitting and he decides to sit on the ground looking over a small field where we have spotted some does.Well I decide to go back to the stand location where i was in the morn, hopefully I would see the small 8 or another one working the area.Anyways I get to my stand at around 2:35,put out some doe pee(hot scrape)Set myself in my stand for a hunt till dark.I proceeded to give it a few grunts as I usually do when I get myself settled in to ease the deer for any noise I have made.I was sitting for maybe 20 min .The weather had turned beautiful,no fog, everything dried up,and no wind, you can hear everything in the surrounding woods. All intill the next door neighbour comes screaming down the trail on his own property with his 4 wheeler and trailer. My stand is about 50 yards off his property line.Anyways this joker waves to me as he drives by(knows where stand is located)Stops all but 100 yards from my stand ,gets off his 4 wheeler and procedes to start up his chain saw and cut wood now for the next 2 hours, man i was pissed.I couldent get out of my stand and move because it would of buggered up my buddys hunt,he was at the end of the trail, looking over the field.I was a rock stuck in a hard place. If I walked into the bush to get to a new location then it would be the same bush my friend and i were watching. So i sat there intill dark just shaking my head. Sorry for rambling on but i had to do a little venting.Tomorrow is another day and I feel good this year I will get one, just have to turn my luck around.Anyways good luck to the rest of you guys ,and please lets not have a repeated day like mine--------lol[:o] |
