For my neck of the woods I've got the deer patterned pretty well and I think I will have to wait until the bucks are really tearing up the trees and/or chasing does before I can get near one of the big boys. They have to be travelling this high grass ditch from one bedding area to another before I'll have a shot.

I'll be headed down to southern Illinois this weekend to hunt a particular rub line that I've seen the last couple of years. Last year shotgun I had a terrific 12pt running that rub line. My thought here is to hunt it early this year before the rubs are fully established - and hopefully catch one in the act - maybe even that big 12pt.

Good Luck all!

Well guys,

As some of you have seen on the bowhunting forum, I tagged a big doe on Monday. As of now, I have had 6 encounters with bucks, one big one that isn't legal! The weather is getting hot now after a nice cool start to the season. Today is supposed to be in the mid to upper 70's. I am gonna go to a stand on my property. It is just 35 yards inside the woods from my back yard. I am just gonna head out late, probablly around 5:00 p.m. and be set and ready to go at 5:15. That will give me the last hour and half of hunting light. No reason to spend 4 hours or more just sitting in stand when the deer aren't gonna be moving until late!

OK just letting off steam....

[:@] today at lunch, went to my father-in-laws house, walked behind the barn to see and check my camera. when the neighbor comes MARCHING up the drive, he claims that he can SEE my stand from his kitchen... and demands that i remove it.. i POLITLEY asked him what power binoculars he was using, because it is about 20 acres seperating the two houses, and he gets all flabergasted and huffs and puffs and says to me that his vision is 20/20. so is mine but i cant see his kitchen from my stand without the aid of a 10 power bino. and on top of that im almost positive my eyes are 25+ years younger than his. so tomorrow night after work im wearing my BLAZE ORANGE riffle hunting jacket, and im bringing my telescope and im gonna wave when he gets his binoculars out and scopes me out...

some people are just complainers... all i want to do is HUNT in PEACE!

Hello guys, its friday morning and just getting home from work:)I will be out hopefully this evening, definately tomorrow morn, sunday morn and monday morn. Its supposed to cool off a bit this weekend hopefully. That should get the bigger bucks moving a little better.
I was out wednesday evening and seen 4 does and a big spike. The spike hung around my stand for about a half hour,it was a blast watching him for that long. The deer still aren't responding to rattling this time of year(believe me i tried)so i'll be grunting sat morn and see what happens.
If I am hunting hard this weekend i may not be back on till mon night,so good luck to everyone:)Hopefully I can get one for the team this weekend:)

Hey guys,

I went out yesterday morning and it was slow. At 7:25 a.m. I had a deer run out of the alfalfa field and into the woods I was in. He didn't have a big body so I thought it was a decent doe. Well, he got behind me at about 35 yards and he was in the open and I could see a nice rack on him. He was a 8 point about 16" wide with good mass and great tine length, probablly a 105-110" buck. He looked young and the shot was too far, so he will live to next year. Even if he was closer I would have passed him up. Its too early and I have seen way too many bigguns!

I have tommorow off and will be out most of the day!

Well I added to the count this weekend. My Mathews sent a thunderbolt through a poor unsespecting doe Sunday morning. My dad hasn't emailed me the pictures yet, but when he does I will get them posted and also on my website.

When I was going out last night my wife thought I was crazy. "You just shot one this morning, why are you going out now?" Isn't she crazy? Well I went out last night and ran accross those same 2 bucks that I blew a chance on last weekend. If the keep coming out of the corn like last night, I might get a shot at one. They cut back to the creek about 60 yards away. Then they walked the creek. I couldn't see them, but they went right under me and I could hear them. It was getting dark and it is really thick behind me in the creek. I will see if they follow the same routine tonight though!!

Good luck guys!!

[:@][>:][&o]

so i lost my BEST "BUCK" producing property this yesterday night when my Father-in-laws neighbor threatened to file suit agains my father-in-law (BOB) ..... Bob said not to worry about it if its legal do it! but i dont want to put him through some misguided frivilous suit or for that matter even a civili suit. he doesnt have the time NOR the patience to deal with this guy... what else could i do??? i dont want to give this guy any more reasons to hate Bob his neighbor... i guess they had some heated words, and im glad Bob is on my side.... what a great father-in-law to have!

either way, now im not going to that site untill things either get solved, or i do it REALLY REALLY secretivley...
and this is what i think. I have every right to be there, but i do NOT want to cause more of a headache to my Wifes father than i have to. i was imposing on him as it is driving thru his property (front yard) to get to my hunting area, now he doesnt mind but i know he takes GREAT pride in his gardens and grass in the front. but again i dont want to cause him any more frustrations. i really really want to hunt this land. it had the best potential for big bucks out of all three propertys.

the other twopropertys, one is only 10 acres and its right in the back yard of a neighborhood, great spot for Doe's as they are fed from all the neighboring houses. and yes i would be able to get 100 yards from their houses. thats not an issue, but the fact that there are 0 bucks around there doesnt help this contest. the other spot has SLIGHT potential.. i have seen one little rub, that was caused by a smaller buck maybe, MAYBE a 6 pointer.. no bigger. but alas who knows how long that guy will be on that property...

What do you guys think i should do in my current cituation? any sugestions woudl be appreciated! thanks alot fellas.

Andy-this spot that you so genually love is a burden to your neighbour. Is there anyway to move your stand a little farther in so he cant see ya.?Maybe you can find a different route and stay clear of his yard.Maybe you can also talk to him and offer him a couple steaks :)
Like IL_Bow said, where there are does the bucks will soon follow. If that 6 pointer comes out to ya and he looks good to ya,take him, remember you are the only person you have to please, and this is only a game.Besides we got 9 of us on the team to score yet(if you get the 6)
The bucks arent moving yet, still to warm.I did jump a dandy as i was checking out some rubs on sat afternoon, not far from my stand, prolly in the high 130 to low 140 class,at least it looked that way as he was high tailing it outta there-lol.Hope i can get him.
Good luck team.and remember we will beat the other teams silly, just a matter of time we start scoring on some bucks.:)

I have been out all weekend and passed up 2 spikes and countless does.I tried rattling and grunting to no prevail, seems like they are not interested just yet.I had 2 spikes past my stand about 40 yards so i tried grunting at them to see what would happen, one look my way and kept walking,no interest at all.
The weather is another major factor for me.I wake up in the early morn and its raining or the wind is just howling. Then i went out sunday evening in a new spot and coulden't keep the mosquitos off me-I think i am being tested-lol.The only good thing is its getting cooler out everyday.Bad news is its supposed to rain friday and saturday again,go figure, the weekend.
Not many bucks being shot around here yet, they are just not moving. The spot i have my treestand also is an awesome spot, just gotta get the farmer on the other property to cut his corn and soyabeans,I think the deer are staying in it all day.
Well i will be out on sat morn for sure, rain or shine and hopefully in the evening as well.Just not sure if the young lad has a hockey game or not.He is the goalie on atom b1 team,i dont want to miss his first game.
Good luck guys and lets get one on the board :)

It's about quality and inches boys. And we have the prime land and the know how to get it done.

By the way...deer are beginning to cruise more in daylight hours here.. and this weekend is looking great. Can't wait. Maybe one of us can shut these other teams up. Good luck and safe hunting.

I don't have alot to say now the seasons open. Busy hunting...... I have only saw one shooter so far, no shot oppertunity though. Bout' 80 yards out. Thats about 40 to far LOL.

Due to work I have had 18 oppertuinties to hunt and have made it out 15 of them. Took hunting off tonight last thurs and fri evenings. Thats all I have missed for evening hunts 3 of em. I've made it for every weekend morning hunt as well.

On a side note. Things will heat up real soon though. I haven't counted any teams out yet as some seem to have. Sure they have a big lead now over most of the teams but the good buck hunting hasn't even started yet. Good luck guys. Later.

The deer were moving this morning! On may way to my parking area almost hit a very nice 8pt , he stopped looked at me, then proceeded to walk into the woods. 200yds further 3 does in the road. I get to my tree and make my way up, as I get to my position I hear something that sounds like it's playing in the creek below me. As I'm pulling up my bow I see a fat doe walking thru the creek 25yds away, I get my bow in hand and get ready, it's barely shooting light so I turn on my red light on the sight so I can see the pin a little better, then she comes up the creek bank broadside at 15yds I draw back and aim, where did she go I can't see her? I open my left eye and see her perfectly clear, still holding my draw I try aiming again and still can't see her the red light is so bright all I can see is a red glow and can't see past the pin. Ilet down very slowly hoping not to spook her and turn the light off and by this time she is behind the brush and never offered another shot. Lesson learned don't use the red light!!![:@]

I went out this evening and had a blast.I had a nice doe travel past my stand at about 15 yards and she hung around for a while. It was the only deer i seen this afternoon, again the wind was real strong and i dont think the deer like to move much in the wind.About 15 min after she left the area a red fox decided to pay a visit and he was tearing up a log off to my left side,I was really enjoying watching him as he hung around for a good 10-15 min as well. And last but not least about 1/2 hour before dark 16 turkeys came strutting past my stand(no open season in fall)one was a really big tom and they decided to roost in the same area i was in.Now it was a little tricky to get out of my stand without spooking the turkeys or anything else in the area for that matter but i think i did o.k.
I hope the wind stops tonight and the rain holds off for the morn because i will be out first thing, its really getting cool now so it should be a big advantage i hope.I will post tomorrow night and let you guys know how my days hunt went--take care:)

Already in from the morning hunt. Saw many deer, and a few nice looking bucks, but not the one I'm looking for. It's muzzleloader this weekend and heard quite a few blasts, so I opted to pull out early and let the other hunters push the deer onto our farm.

The next time I'll step into a stand will be in Kansas on Oct 30th. I'm too pumped to sleep. The outfitter said with all the rainfall in KS this year, the rack development is great. He's been seeing some absolute monsters and took at 190" plus himself one month ago during their early muzzleloader season. Anyhow, keep at it and I'll check in to see how we are doing and let you know how my KS trip went.

I need some support...

I got really luck last year and shot a huge buck, you've seen the pics, 180 5/8ths, etc. Well I got my pic in our state magazine as the largest bow kill of 2003 and it was great. The problem is that with all the publicity, now my quiet little farm with huge deer, has got hunting pressure from my neighbors. In a typical year, no bowhunters and 3-5 muzzleloader and gun hunters, but I found out yesterday the my neighboring farm has 2 bowhunters, one of which took big 8 in the first week of the season, and 4 gun hunters, along with two other farms in the close proximity that has another 5-8 hunters on them. So my hunting pressure has increased and I'm afraid my nice protected travel corridors that allowed big bucks to get to my property are being hunted. I know, I'm whining and I don't have it as bad as most, I know. Just I loved having it to myself. I've seen more and more bucks, just no quality shooters, yet. I'll have to put my time in during the rut and prior to gun opener in mid november. And the other thing is that I'm selective and try to only take true mature deer, which now I loose control of, because I don't know the other hunters. If they were selective, then possibly we all win, but I heard way too many blasts this past weekend to think they were selective, which also is a downer.

Anyhow, just had to get that out. I'm kinda bummed that all that publicity pulled in more hunters, almost makes me wish I'd kept to myself. Anyhow, lesson learned.

Kelly

Tonight was a joke. I headed out at about 3:00 to get in my stand. There was no wind, it was fairly cool outside, and the sky was over-cast. Perfect day to be in the stand. Well, after about half an hour in stand, it started sprinkling, then raining. I figured "when this shower ends, deer activity is gonna be awsome"... well, it kept raining and raining. I spent about 3 hours getting rained on without seeing a deer!
