I'm completely new to the crossbow genre. My dad just bought a new crossbow. Its a PSE viper. It seems a little loud to me. Being an avid compound bow user, and being a firm believer in the limb saver technology on my compound bow, I was wondering if you could actually even put them on a crossbow or not. If so is it a special limb saver for only a crossbow or just a regular one for a non split limb bow? Can you put the string leeches on it too without compromising the speed as well? Thanks to all for any help. Good luck this season.

Imho, the cheapest and best xbow silencers are heavier arrows. The rule of thumb is 1 fps for every 5 gr change in weight. Say you drop 20 fps w/ limb and string fluff. You could go up in arrow weight almost 100 gr, have better k.e. and nothing to go south on you.
Just my opinion.

I use Limbsavers on my Excal and find that they do indeed dampen the noise. I put one on each side of the rail near the end and one on the inside of each limb near the end where they just touch the string. On a compound crossbow I don't know about placing them on the inside of the limbs.
You will NEVER get a crossbow very quiet.
