Default excersie for better shooting

I have been shooting my new crossbow.
Supporting it on a rest and shooting I am dead on shot after shot.
Standing and shooting free hand I lose accuracy.
It there an excersie or method to stead yourself for better free hand shooting.
Not only something for the crossbow, but slug guns and riffles aslo.
Just looking for something to help steady those cross hairs.

I was taught to place my elbow into my waist when doing free hand shots as it tends to support the weight of the xbow better. I know it has helped me a lot as I tend to target practice freehand once my xbow is dialed in. I use a bench rest to get it dialed in and then freehand shoot from there. Most of my stands are the hanging variety with no shooting rail, so I practice accordingly.
