For just your CB? No. I would not let camo on a gun or CB be my deciding factor unless I planned on hunting turkey. I own a full camo set up, but killed plenty of deer in jeans and a carhart coat sitting on the ground.

I've got both the Vixen (deerhide brown) and a Phoenix (camo) but I like shooting my Vixen more. I'm not sure that not being camo is a hinderance since I hunted for years with shotguns and rifles that had brown wooden stocks and shiny blue steel and still got more than my fair share of deer. Like Hotburn, I've also done well with non-camo clothing and I sometimes think we take camo to the extreme especially with smaller items. At least the deerhide brown is dull and non-reflective. You won't go wrong with any Excal crossbow no matter the model.

camo patterns on a crossbow isnt needed but it isvisual appealing, and admit it or not just about everyone around carries a fairly high regaurd for visual appeal when it comes to buying and owningthings like this


I'll bet if you were looking to buy one and I put a deerhide brown vixen and one decked out in excalibur camo on a table and said "you can have either one they're were both the same price" thatthere would be a surprising amount of deerhide brown ones left over after everyone chose...

not to mention that a color/pattern choice for the vixen would only help its sales, I'd bet money that the color alone has turned more than one person away from buying a vixen and I'm sure thedeerhidebrown has intensified more than one persons impression that the vixen is nothing but a "low end" model in excaliburs line, not even worthy of itssharp looking camo patterns...




I like the vixen and wouldnt mind owning one myself, and when it comes right down to it I personally dont mind the deerhidebrown either, but I do like the camo patterns better, and given the choice thats what I'd want...

I just bought a used VIXEN for my son for Christmas a little while ago. That thing shoots absolutely perfect. With a scope don't shoot at the same bullseye more than once at 20 yards unless you want to risk splitting a $10.00 carbon arrow!! Also the one I got is CAMO!! I don't know what year it is though? I would not hesitate to buy another one!!! My step DAD has an older HORTON HUNTER and he couldn't believe the accuracy difference.

Codsterboy, If you got one in camo then you got away like a bandit. They carry a premium. I am looking for one in perfect shape.

i cannot wait to get this crossbow
is there a difference between recurve and compound crossbows besides easier pulling after certain time?

Recurve is a little wider, but not much. They also have less moving parts so you have less chance of things going wrong, no out of tune issues. A recurve is a do-it-yourself type of CB. With a compound you will have to have a press to do your work if need be. If you like to shot alot then a recurve is a must IMO. If you plan on setting it on a shelf and plunking a few arrows before season then you may not see the benefit of a recurve. Us recurve guys like our simple CB's, but it's not like I hear people wearing out cams left and right also. You get that Vixen and you will be one happy camper IMO.
