This Cricket eats squirrel for lunch!
After seeing him shoot Don's .17HMR I knew he was destined to own a rifle.. There aren't many options out there for a 4 year old boy, I ended up teetering between a Henry mini-bolt synthetic or the Cricket laminated. He opted for real wood. So I brought him home his first .22 rifle. There isn't much in season right now that the kid can shoot, but he sure can make a mess of a pop can at 75 yards.
We went to the Great Canadian outdoor show today as we do each year, one booth had firearm instructors with pellet guns shooting 4 targets on a string at 20 yards.. When I brought Hunter up the instructor just lifted an eyebrow, he could hardly see over the bench. He shouldered the rifle as the instructor was starting to explain to him where to look through the sights, before he finished the sentence Hunter had all 4 targets down, the guy looked me in the eye andsaid "OK then." Hunter said "can we move back farther?" It was a pretty funny scene. He explained there was nothing he could compete in at his age but at 13 the whole shooting world would open up to him. Between now and then I think the small game population may dwindle a bit around here. It's a bad day to be a squirrel.

Way to go David, you're doing a fine job with that fine looking young man. Glad to see you've trained him well how to shoot and even pose for a picture with the bolt open for safty. If a caption was over his head, I think it would probably read, "you got anything you want shot?" LOL
Thanks for sharing a priceless picture.

He is a pretty serious little guy, thats for sure.
I have modified my old Daco crossbow to fit him but it is still too difficult to work the safety while releasing the arrow. This little .22 of his is loaded with features designed to keep a kid safe, provided he is supervised.
