Shooting a crossbow from a "Bench"

I have seen the supports used for a gun, are crossbow supports the same for firing from?
I ask because I seem to get more consistent results from freehand shooting than from a secured or stationary position. I am wondering if the recoil of a bow is affecting the shot..
As a bench I am using a four legged work bench with a tightly rolled cloth on top to rest the crossbow on.. Last night as I was getting sporadic shot placements I was wondering if I was doing yet another thing wrong..:)

Pydpiper, i use sand bags! Leather type filled with sand, and use one hand under buttstock for abit of support.Recoil of CB happens on mine after arrow has already cleared CB channel. It will make right limb tip up on mine. Because i am left handed and sqeeze trigger with left hand.

Next time you are at a gun store check out the Harris Bipod. It clips into the forward swivel stud.

For sighting in I use the same bench rest I use for my muzzle loaders and rifles. Lee

W/o sandbags, all kinds of nasty things happen! Double gallon zip-locks full of sand and a pair of old cotton socks works well, though I suppose you could use wool, lol.

Hey Reb, you got one of them super doper high speed blow guns too? WOW! That's cool man. I thought I was the only one that had one. I know that's what it is in pics three and four but in pic five, tell that young lady not to be alarmed but she's got some white liquid pouring outta her right elbow. Don't know what it is but it's probably not serious.

I always use a rest. If not I open up my twenty yard groups to about two to three inches! When in the tree or ground I try to always use my knees to steady my shot.
