i use gun rest for crossbows i sight in..they are awful heavy, i cant shoot them off hand..

Thank you for all the great ideas guys.. It looks like a lot of you use rests of some form.
I wasn't sure if a crossbow rest would differ from a gun rest.. It looks like the general consensus is they are the same.. |

I feel like a ghost from the past... I would like to note that if you are shooting off a bench, Watch your fingers and thumb. The hold position seem a bitdiif and you do not (based on my experience) want them to drift above the rail... >>>>>>>>>>>>Wh ack. Still looking for a thumbnail.

Ihave yet to get my hands in the way of the string, but I suspect it is just a matter of time.. I am very conscious of that string before I fire, more so than I am of whether of not there is an arrow in place.:eek:

this must have been his wife..he went to pull the crossbow string back and did not have his rubber boot into stirup far enough,up came horton bow and knocked 1 tooth out and awful cut on his lip.. blood everywhere,of course the young compound shooters were laughing, thats 1 less crossbow shooter in woods..i told a few, how about knuckle sandwich from me too see how it feels, ha.. |

I made what I think is the ultimate bench rest. I took a scissors jack, welded a flat plate on the bottom, made a shooting bag holder out of wood for the top. You can adjust it fron 6" to 2'.
It will not budge, and will work for many sized people. The jack was 20 dollars at auto zone, cheaper from a junk yard. On the way home from the range, if you have a flat, just jack up the truck with it. |

I'm not sure but i heard the squirrel does all his sighting in from a bench.

I did a good one two weeks ago when I went out with my dad that I had keep to myself, but will tell because you all should enjoy. Most of the time I just shoot in the ground, but sometimes when with dad will hold string and let him hit the trigger. Starting to get low on the aluminums so sometimes I try and save them since I can only get a few ground shots out of them before they bend. But anyways, I get into position as always and Dad pulls for me and WHACK right in the chest a little, no pain but enough to make me almost POOP! I always hold the string all the way down, but I let it down fast kinda, no dry fire. But here is the kicker, I left the arrow on! It hit the ground and the stock had to come up! What a ride!! Thats another one I hope I put on the do it once list!!

That was a funny story! At first I thought you were going to say you didn't have your foot in the stirrup, but that was just as good..:D
