TARGETS

Ok, I'm about at my wits end. Is there a target out there that will stop a 408 gr. arrow at 330 fps. field tip and broad head? I've got a Block xbow
that buries them to the fletch, went thru everything Mal-Wart offers, just tried a Morrell foam, and have the distinction of being the first ever to have to return a Rinehart 18-1, because my LII's actually "melt" the foam and "glue" to it. Only went in about 8" @ 30 yds. Boy, I thought Eureka!!
until I tried to pull the arrow. Got a Mckenzie coming next, maybe that Scottish name will be tighter, LOL. Called Excal and they use the "Yellow Jacket" for field tips, but didn't have an answer for b-heads. Kinda like sellin somebody a car w/o brakes!! But I still love em!!! LOL HELP???

Hey Dan, you are going to have to go to a bag butt buddy, LOL. The best one I've seen thus far is the American White Tail. Its a big one and should be hung (I don't). Have you tried to suspend your Block so that it's movement will absorb some of the energy? Here's a pic. I has a pic of a whitetail's vitals on one side and dots on the other. This target needs some attention. I bought it before xmas and I have gone through it already (up to 50 or more per day 5 days a week at 20 yards). I will probably get away with just stuffing it with more cloth.
Don

No you cannot. Try using a carboard box three or four inches thick filled with cloth in front of your foam target. You are generally better off to hang your target butt/target.

Delta Broadhead Buck Target
When preparing for a shot at that monster buck, there is no better practice than shooting at a target that looks exactly like your quarry. The vitals area of this realistic life-size buck is crafted using new ELCĀ® Encapsulated Layered Core technology which, along with being exceptionally durable, efficiently stops both broadheads and field points, and promotes easy one-handed arrow removal. Delta combined ELCĀ® with its premium 3-D-target foam to stand up to seasons of daily shooting. Replacement vitals sections are available.

Being a glutton for punishment, R Hog's tip led me to "Pacific......." They claim they have one for all. I'll be tryin it next week. Actually, I ordered two, one for 20 and one for 40. Can haul them both back to UPS if they don't work out. About made my mind up to get a Vixen to target shoot with. BTW I got alot of aluminum inserts for L II's, free to the first pm, unless I don't like ya, then ya gotta pay $.83 shipping.

Dan, your hilarious! My wife can't understand why I spend so much time here and what is so funny.....speaking ofwhich, has anyone hear from the little arrow slinging tree rat recently? Going to have to PM him something nasty! LOL can't wait for the shots back! Just love hearing from that kid.

Dnk: He's serious. Some use one knife, while others prefer two, one in each hand. Right now there is a heated debate going on over in the Crazy Pig Sticker forum. The one handers are claiming the two knifers are ruining the heritage and tradition of the sport. From my point of view it looked like both sides of the issue were getting eaten up.

Ok Dan, I cannot see your face, so I cannot imagine this. You mean that there are human beings that bleed and feel pain that stab big, fat, hairy, gumpy, ornery, smelly, tenacious, dangerous, human sticking, dog killin, flesh eating oinkers? NAWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!! Your kidding???? Serious???? Well.........if thats true, then hats off to a better man than me or some one that has no fear or pain sensations or blood. Really this is a true fact?

Went on my first hog hunt with a knife last turkey season in Steinhatchee. Got 3 hogs down at the same time, you talk about a testosterone rush!!! Had to get to em quick before they had a chance to take out the dogs. I use a 4" Cold Steel folder. After the first time, your'e hooked!!! Got 2 of them but the 3rd broke loose, they only went about 80 pounds but they're the best for eating anyway. Guns or bows ain't allowed because of the danger to the dogs!! Gonna buy a Cold Steel boar lance and go after them with the bay dogs instead of the catch dogs. They hold em in a circle and you get to go after the hog one on one with the spear!! Reb, maybe we can hook up for a hunt,,I'm in St. Pete and hunt Avon Park,,HUGE hogs there!!

Smitty, welcome to the good attitude club man! So you do the same thing eh? There is something that you and Reb are addicted to its some thing your body produces. Get this, its called dopemine, LOL too funny! Same thing with some of the purely stupid, risky things I do. Apparently its a hormone that your body produces when you take a chance or risk. And that why we get addited as you said. Makes sense like gambling or skydiving or whatever. Kinda sounds cool and I know I could get sucked in and addicted like you crazy buzzards! I get talked into stuff like that way too easy. I am betting that the biggest laughs come when its all done, dogs taken care of and you all collect together for the story telling of the day! If Squirrel does it I will too!

Hey Smitty, I use to go to Steinhatchee when it was in Cross City!:)Been to the new location also and have taken many hogs. Did you go tothe Hiching Post in Steinhatchee? It's just before you get to Jena Beach.
Hey you did'nt go across the road into Buckeye Paper Co., did you?:D:D:D:D

Also, if you hunt Avon Park, you better have snake boots!;)

I know it is crazy but it sounds like a rush! Just imagine your heart pounding real hard, breathing like crazy, eyes wide open, hearing just the dogs baying, the smell of the oinker, the smell of the earth and mud and trees, then BOOM! Ya have a heart attack and die! What a rush! I get talked into the most stupid things so why stop now! I think it would be wise not to come close to these guys untill my kids are finished with univerity! LOL but sounds tempting!:D

HB76,I didit for over 50yrs and only been charged 5 0r 6 times. The biggest danger isto have someone runningbehindyou with a loaded shotgun or rifle. That's a NO-NOwith me!Side arm and sticking knife only! This is with dogs of course. Hell, down here you have to worry more about the Snakes and Gators, than you do the hogs!:)I would like to take you one time to see the expressions on your face!!!!!:D:D:D:D:D

The guy I go with had a friend lose a testicle and about a 12" gash to the bone, just missed the femoral artery by an inch.I had to chase down a hog through about 50 yards of slew,,didn't even think about the mocs or gators till after I cut the hog,,Ray (the guy I go with) says he killed about a dozen gators in that hole!!!! I won't mention his name, but he belongs to one hell of a huntin club!! Has about 30 dogs,,deer, catch, bay, and coon, Loses about 2 a year to the pigs. He has 2 bigboars locked up for training,,neither one has 2 complete ears!! Yep,addicting as hell, but gettin kind of old for that kind of huntin,,I gota disability crossbow license, so I'll be hunting with that this year,,,never seen a snake in Avon yet,,,BUT everyone else has!! Reb, what part of Florida are you livin,,oh yea, I do hunt with an Excalibur!!

Does anyone who sticks pigs know about the dopemine addiction? This is for real. A customer of mine told me about that when I told him about the things we do for fun(mild by comparison).

I'm in Lutz, 20miles north of Tampa and about 30miles east of New Port Richy off of HWY 54. Smitty I have'nt gone in the last 4yrs cause of Femoral leg by-passes and last year I had emergency gallbladder surgery and now I have two small aneurysms that I am watching every 6 months with Cat Scans. AH, the Golden Years!:D:DI'm 66.
Smitty, I have beento every WMA in Fl.. more than once. I plan to go this year with a cross bow for the first time....for deer. I'm trying to get all the info I can get from these guys. I believe it's going to be the Exocet Package. I will have to go to Bass Pro in Orlando. I have the Barnett dist. about 9 miles from me, but decided on the Excal...
