Default I Got My 1st Doe Yesterday- "Earn-A-Buck"

1st Deer of the year!
Every deer is a trophy in my book! I got out to my stand at 6pm after work- I didn't even plan on hunting yesterday, but Venison4all convinced me to go out for a few hours with him- and by 6:30pm I had aprox. 7 deer (all does) pass under my stand. My stand is on the edge of nice 2 acre thicket that butts up against a 60 acre field. I had my eye on two of the larger ones, but they passed at about 30-35yards and the canopy from the trees didn't allow a clear shot into the field. One of the does stopped to eat some of the corn that I had put out, and presented a beautiful 10yard broadside opportunity. My bow is a Martin Jaguar set at 60lbs, so I was able to draw back VERY SLOWLY and I laid a textbook pass through double-lung shot just behind the heart. (even though it was close, I still appreciate a well placed shot) She dropped 40yrds from my stand. This was my first Muzzy 4 blade harvest (converted on this forum from Spitfire Mechs.) We tagged her and butchered it ourselves - by 10pm we were eating the most delicious tenderloin and back-strap lightly breaded with a touch of red cooking wine. Washed it down with a frosty beer!
The rest is bleeding out and we'll package it on Saturday after the morning hunt. Now I've got my Buck Stub! <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> Yeah baby! I love his!
Special thanks to Venison4all for talking me into going yesterday and letting me hunt his land. <img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle>

Congrats on filling that doe tag. That's a good idea butchering it yourself. We are considering that if we can get a band saw. The place we go to just bumped up their price to $75 a deer!<img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle> With the number of deer we shoot we would be spending close to a grand a year between all of us (only 3 regulars and an occasional 4th). Go get that buck now!

Okay, I've just about had it with you early season bowhunters. <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle> Not only do you tell your hunting stories on this forum, but now you have to go and tell of the recipe of which you cooked that delicious venny and washed it down with a frosty one! <img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle> Now, not only is my mouth watering, my heart is aching to be out there too. When is one of you NJ neighbors going to have this Pennsylvania boy down there to join you? <img src=icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle> My season is still two weeks away.

Congrat's NJ Bowhunter <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> and thanks for making me hungry. <img src=icon_smile_evil.gif border=0 align=middle> <img src=icon_smile_clown.gif border=0 align=middle> <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

Rob,
Look at it this way, They will have their buck on the ground and butchered and eaten before you and I even start hunting so We can have the last laugh in a month when we tag ours <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Congratulations NJ-Bowhunter!

Greg, don't start laughing yet. In NJ permit bow starts in late October and runs through the rut. So if a buck is down now, I just have to wait until late October. Not to mention you can shoot as many does as you want. NJ is a great state to deer hunt if you can find property to hunt.<img src=icon_smile_evil.gif border=0 align=middle>
