1st Deer of the year!
Every deer is a trophy in my book! I got out to my stand at 6pm after work- I didn't even plan on hunting yesterday, but Venison4all convinced me to go out for a few hours with him- and by 6:30pm I had aprox. 7 deer (all does) pass under my stand. My stand is on the edge of nice 2 acre thicket that butts up against a 60 acre field. I had my eye on two of the larger ones, but they passed at about 30-35yards and the canopy from the trees didn't allow a clear shot into the field. One of the does stopped to eat some of the corn that I had put out, and presented a beautiful 10yard broadside opportunity. My bow is a Martin Jaguar set at 60lbs, so I was able to draw back VERY SLOWLY and I laid a textbook pass through double-lung shot just behind the heart. (even though it was close, I still appreciate a well placed shot) She dropped 40yrds from my stand. This was my first Muzzy 4 blade harvest (converted on this forum from Spitfire Mechs.) We tagged her and butchered it ourselves - by 10pm we were eating the most delicious tenderloin and back-strap lightly breaded with a touch of red cooking wine. Washed it down with a frosty beer!
The rest is bleeding out and we'll package it on Saturday after the morning hunt. Now I've got my Buck Stub! <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> Yeah baby! I love his!
Special thanks to Venison4all for talking me into going yesterday and letting me hunt his land.
