For me it started because I was in the middle of nowhere growing up in Vermont. There wasn't much to do there except for spend time in the woods, go cow tipping, or tap maple trees in the spring. My father and I spent a LOT of time fishing when I was very little, but by time I was old enough to hunt my father wasn't around much. Pretty much the only good time we spent together from the time I was about 10 years old to when I was about 22 was hunting, which is probably the only thing that held us toghter during rough times. We spend lots of time together now but when I am hunting without him, I still call him on my cell phone after downing a deer usually while I am still in my tree. I would love to find a way to make a career out of this hobby/addiction.

I did not grow up hunting, but was avid in Colorado's outdoors and fishing through scouts. My Dad grew up in Arkansas in the depression and hunted to eat. It wasn't sport to him, so he wasn't interested in taking me.

In high school in Colorado, I was invited on a hunt with a friend. It was not far from Denver and it was a drunken camp. They were not careful with their guns or their game. A shot hit a tree near me. They snuck game home in hidden camper compartments. If this was hunting, it wasn't for me.

Twenty years later, four years ago, when I moved to Montana and my son came of age, he got his first deer after a long season. Some good friends helped us get started. We're hooked and what I would call avid but still novices. It is now my sons' favorite thing to do. This year we took up bow shooting and hope to hunt with them this fall.

I'm the only one in my family that took to the outdoors hunting, fishing, camping etc.
I think my fasanation started as a very young kid. my grandfather hunted and fished
and i was always wanting to go with him but i was always to young to go huntingi got to go fishing with him alot but never hunting. i think my mom was to worried about me going hunting
so thereh was always a excuse why i could'nt go. the fasanation for hunting and the want to learn how never left me,so when i was old enough to take hunters safety i took the course and i've
been a fanatic ever since that was 30 plus years ago!!!! I'm basically self taught. I mostly muzzle
loader hunted for years and i could never understand why anybody would want to hunt with a bow and arrow it seemed so stupid that is until i tried it now i have no desire to hunt with a firearm.
I'm obsessed with archery!!!! I love it and i can't believe i wasted so many years thinking archery was stupid.
