Default Evening Gobbler

I went out this evening about 5pm. I had birds gobbling around me off and on most of the night. I had one come in silent around 6 but was in too much brush to get a shot and he was 30yrds away.
Around 7pm, the wind died down and I gave another call. I heard a faint gobble down the ridge i was on. It was him. The fella that has been giving me the slip all season. I called again. Gobbbllle, ggooobbbble. Ahhh, His amigo is with him. I went silent and soon they gobbled again and were closing the distance fast. I

I waited roughly 5 min. and let out a soft yelp that was cut off - CLOSE! I looked out the window my blind and here they came. Both of them were in full strut and started drumming up a storm as they made there way to the decoy.

As No. 1 passed the window I hit him perfect above the hips. He jumped around on the ground while he found out that his amigo maybe wasn't his best friend after all because he was getting the flogging of his life. As I hurried to get another arrow to poss. fill my second archery tag. I was spotted by 'amigo'. He went out of strut and started to move. I was dead on him and missed....

Oh well, Always tomorrow evening while everyone is out buggering them up in the mornings!!!

I used a Mathews "classic" Q2 with GT arrows tipped with Rocket Sidewinders for those interested. This is also the 1st animal of, hopefully, many that I harvest with my new TR Matrix and Dropzone that I started using this Spring!!!! TR makes some Awesome Products!!!

(note sure what happened to my camera...not overly happy!)

Very nice! Looks like a pretty long beard. What was the length of the spurs? Good job.

We can only hunt here in Missouri til 1 pm. I would love to be able to go out in the evening because I see a lot of birds in the fields right before flying up to roost.

Great job. Congrats on the sweet bird. Thanks for the story and the pic. Nothing like turkey hunting, is there?
