Default First shot at a deer

I got my first "real" shot at a doe yesterday. I say "real" because I had a shot last year where I panicked and shot a mile behind a doe. This year the shot was at 23 yards broadside, but my arrow hit a branch and rammed itself into the ground underneath the doe. Funny how quickly I went from praying I had hit the deer to praying that I had completely missed the deer when I realized I hadn't hit her fatally! We watched the deer for at least five minutes and the arrow was completely clean of everything except dirt. No hair or blood where she was standing. Hopefully next time will be a clean hit!

Congratulations Lady Arwen!
The first one with a bow is the toughest!
The arrow-eating tree will always be there as well<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Good Luck!

Lady Arwen As everyone above has stated first one is the hardest. Mine went over her back by 20 feet probably. You can believe that the next shot will be more on line to your target. Not to put you to sleep I remember my first Bow Hunt after be a rifle hunter only put my stand in a tree and said this would be a great spot. When i put me stand where I wanted it was a great spot for a rifle not a BOW though. More branches around me then you can shake a stick out. Sorry for the pun. Good Luck in the future

We live, we hunt, we learn. It was a great hunt regardless wasn't it Lady Arwen? It's not all about the venison on the table. Some of my fondest hunt ended fruitless but full of information. Congrat's on a fine hunt, you'll take home some venison soon enough.

The old arrow eating tree,,,ah yes, I know them all too well.

Stick with it, as the others have said, the first one is the toughest.

Thank you everyone for your words of encouragement! It's always good to know that I am not alone in my experiences. Even though I haven't been successful yet, all of the memories ARE worth the time and effort. It's so much fun just to be out in the woods.
