Default RE: rubber bands od broadheads?

The insert that accepts the broadhead is usually cemented in with a heat sensitive cement. In other words, if you heat the arrow near the broadhead end, the insert will turn freely after the cement (epoxy) runs warm. I do this with the broadhead in place, and when the heat relases the insert, I just turn the broadhead to be lined up the way I want and then let it cool to re-set the cement/epoxy.

According to dave Watson on Bushnells Secrets of the Hunt, If the blades are lined up with the vanes they will shoot better. It was this weeks archery tech tip of the week.

I too say bushnells secret of the hunt. I almost fell out of my chair laughing when I herd him say that. It makes no difference in my oppinion and the only reason people find that their broadheads fly better is becaused when they rotate the insert they also line up the insert so that the broadhead spins better. Just my 2 cents.

PA,
If it gives you any more confidence in your set-up at all then I say "go for it."
I have seen it done both ways but I would try heating the insert glue and turning it.
I don't know what the rubber band would do on impact or it may have no bearing.
I think some broadheads come with o-ring but I can't remember which ones(Thunderhead?)
For what its worth I have shot lined up and out of line and I usualy just stop where my broadhead spins true reguardless of fletching

Personally, i think it can help. Putting broadheads on the end of your arrows is like putting some more "wings" on your arrow. It really makes a difference with wide cutting diameter broadheads. The main thing you want to look for is wobble in the broadhead, which can be fixed by slightly bending the broadhead till it achieves perfect allignment with the shaft. I align my steel force 4 blades with the main blade lined up with my nock, and my muzzys with the feathers. It can't hurt anything to line them up. You also want a well tuned bow shooting bullet holes so u can get full energy behind your arrow. This is just my opinion though, do whatever makes u feel best.

I have found it makes no differnce at all in any of the heads or setups I have tried it on. You can heat up the insersts and turn them, but I would not recomend rubber bands or O rings. that is just one more weak link to contend with.

Lining them up with the fletching/vanes might not make much difference but, I like to keep all of mine aligned the same.

TRY THIS: Get some teflon plumbers tape..the kind that is about 1/4" wide and wrap the threads of the broadhead with 5 or 6 wraps...wrap up to the neck of the broadhead. When you screw them in they will tighten up nicely and you'll be able to adjust them to the same orientation. When you need to take them out they will also come out easier...

redneck you didn't say if they are carbon or alu. carbon should be done when the insert is frist installed(with epoxy), alu. if installed with hot melt can be adj. by heating them up. i like the heads alined then they all will be the same hight and width as the arrow is comes off the bow. good luck jim
