Anyone out there make there own deer gland lures at home? If so would you share in how you make it. I would really apprecitate it.

I have done it: first you kill a deer ( preferably with your bow), second take a knife and cut off the scent glands....its just that easy works great and mostly inexpensive

There is a lure that can be made using Holstein vaginal discharge, pure whitetail urine, interdigital gland and tarsal gland. More of the story can be read in Charles Alsheimer's book "Whitetail The Ultimate Challange". He learned it from some dairy farmer that killed a powerful buck using it.

Thanks for the info. I have the glands from the deer I got back in Nov. But was looking to see what or if I need to mix it with any liquid? I perfer not to use the gland out in the field. But I would like to use a liquid made from the gland.

We stick the gland right to a tree.

Put it in a 2 quart pot half filled with water on the stove. Bring it to a boil for 15 to 20 minutes then let it simmer on low for 2 hours. Store the liquid in an open jar in the fridge for 1 hour then bottle it in a dark spray bottle.

No I don't make my own but always wondered what the famalies reaction would be if I tried something like this. The wife was not to crazy when I boiled the sandsharks head on the stove to get and clean off the jaws!!! Actually now that I am thinking about it she did have a crazy look in her eye when she opened the door to the house with with one of her friends right behind her after a shopping adventure and was greeted by the pugnent aroma of a boiled sharks head!!! I still laugh my as. off when I remember that day!!!! LOL!!!

I go down to the local dairy farm. And take the urine and fecal juice from the slurry tank. Add a ltlle of my own urine. Works for me.Smells just like tinks.DONT refrig it
