Ok this is totally unorthodox and not for everbody. When I was in college I bought my first bow becuase rifle hunting wasn't exciting for me. This was before too many people bow hunted. It was a wopping $140 with the works! Well I headed out to a local park and shot for a bit to get the hang of it.
Then I went back to the motel I managed and lived it. Since I couldn't shoot around the motel I put my target across the back office (not being able to play with my new toy was driving me crazy). Corner to corner it was 15 yards and I used an old potato sack filled with plastic. It was about 1 foot wide and 1.5 feet tall. For months I shot inside and never missed the target knowing that my ass would be grass if I ever missed it. After a few months I could put 3 arrows in a quarter without thinking at 15 yards over and over again. It was just knowing that if I ever missed the target I would be in BIG trouble by the owners becuase I would have to tell them what happened.
That first season I took my first deer with a bow, a nice 3 X 2.5 (the one side was broken to hell). Since then I have upgraded my bow and my range. I now have a huge yard with a 70 yard range in the back yard but becuase I'm not as pressured to get it right every single time my groups aren't quite as perfect. Now if I could just convice the wife I need to set up a target in the house (I know better than to even ask).

Last year I got my first high dollar bow. I live in northern MN where it's freezing cold 6 months out of the year. Yeah I could of shot at our local club, but I wanted to be able to shoot whenever I wanted. I got a 5 spot target bag (stops carbons in their tracks) and plopped it against the wall in our basement. I sat on one of our kids little chairs and was able to shoot at 5 yds till my heart was content. First time the misses heard the thumps she ran down stairs screaming "what the hell is going on down here?". After she saw what I was doing and after giving her the ol puppy eyes and smile, she shook her head and smirked and went back upstairs. I thought I was dead meat. So, you never know just maybe...........................

Neat story jj.I started out with an el cheapo recurve that a roomate gave me back about 25 to thirty years ago. Then stepped up to my first compound a couple years later. Now after shooting my compounds for all these years I have a want and need to pick up a simple stick and string and go back to my roots
.Look how you had to focus when you shot indoors, knowing that if you missed what could have happened,I think that just that little bit of pressure is always needed to keep us sharp
