Default Broad heads for Tennessee boar hunt

I will be heading to Tennessee in mid-March for my first boar hunting experience. I’m really looking forward to the hunt but I am a bit concerned about which broad heads to use for boar because I have been told that they are tough to bring down with a bow. I will be shooting a Mathews LX @ 68lbs.

Any advice or past experiences will be appreciated.

I switched from Rocky Mtn Snypers for my upcoming boar hunt.
First I tried G5 Montecs...but didn't think they were very sharp (nor was I able to sharpen them to my liking). I heard over and over again that Muzzy was the way to go (is it true that the tip of a Muzzy broadhead is so tough that you can shoot through a quarter??). Anway, I bought 'em...and I like the way they fly. I also like the idea of replacing (vs. re-sharpening) the blades.
Goin' this Friday.....I'll let you know how it turns out.
Good luck!

P.S. Pig Pickin' at my house next weekend!!! You're all invited!!

I'll be headed to TN this March for some boar hunting. (my 5th year of boar hunting )

I've had great luck with my 125gr Muzzy 3blades. I'm shooting a sloooow round wheel bow set at 55lbs. Only had one 'poor' penetration issue and that was when I was putting a follow-up shot on a big, scarred up old boar that was quartering towards me. Got about 4" of penetration through the shield, and while that didn't impress the pig, it did impress me.

Anyhow, the first shot blew through him so it didn't matter.

The other broadhead that seems to cut through hawgs like butter is the Wensel Woodsman. If you can sharpen them, they are awesome.

I know he doesn't look like much in the photo, but that was one nasty old pig.

...and while I'm posting pictures.. here's a boar I got the next day. This hog was great because he charged everybody at least once. (my guide Lonnie did a little tap dance on the pig's head)

You guys have great hunts and take lots of pictures!

I used a 125 grn two blade stinger on my pig hunt. The shot was perfect and I got a complete pass through. Hog went about 100 yards and piled up. If I go again the stingers would be high on my list as I was very happy with there performance.

Thanks to everyone for their input. It’s great to finally find a board with people who have actually “been there, done that’ and are willing to answer questions. After searching thru the limited selection at our local archery store, I picked up some 100 gr. N.A.P. Razorback’s. Now my biggest concern now is making a well placed shot and letting the head do the rest. I’ll post pictures when we get back.

AmanitaVerna, great looking hog pictures. Thanks for posting them.
