Must be nice to be a Iowa Resident, Brandon. I hunted Mike's farm there this year and was watching a 135-140"" that would never get close enough to give me a shot. Came home empty handed.


I usually try to shoot at least 1 mature doe a year and any buck over 125".

Any buck that will go over 150 lbs dressed. Not every mature deer has great or astonishing headgear. If i see a deer with a barreled chest, and a large neck, I'm going to admire the rack AFTER its on the ground.

For me it depends on body size. Mostly mature does, button bucks are a no-no. And since my private land joins public land, mature bucks are hard to find. Usually anything larger than a spike with a decent body size will get my attention

Any non-fawn doe gets shot. Bucks have to be 2 1/2 year olds or score at least 110. Unless I am hunting an area that holds BIG ones, I'd wait for a 120.

Where/Who is Mike's...Sounds like that buck will be ready to be plucked next year!!!

Any doe over 100lbs. For buck, i have a min of 4pnts to a side and a 14'' spread.

150 class or bigger with a bow...I shot a 7x8 that scored 142...I'm looking for big daddy now..

150 class or better if I was going to shoot a buck and it was before mid Dec. After that I go by feeling. If I feel like it I will drop it. It really comes down to do I have time to deal with it.
Some areas I don't concider a honey hole but a meat hole. Those places with the same criteria for having time to mess with them. I will shoot bambi everytime over any other deer in that hole. They are that much easier to deal with and if I want more meat I will shoot another one.
