Default Opinions on strap on tree steps

I have a couple of friends that use the strap on tree steps and I am considering getting some myself. Has anyone used these and if so what are your opinions.

Oh boy. I've used these and had plenty of problems with them slipping at the buckle. Ameristep are the ones I was using I believe I can check if you want.

The individual steps are the most dangerous type of step to use according the TMA.

I have used and like Lone wolf tree steps and Summit buck steps - I would consider both extremely safe, easy to use and transport, and quiet to set up, and very solid on the tree. Very different from the indiviual strap on steps. I'm not sure what kind you were asking about.

I have used them on several occasions and never had a problem. Although I didn't go up that high with them. I always carry one or two in my pack as they come in handy for hanging my pack, gun or bow in a new tree that hasn't been set up. Either way you should always wear a safety harness while climbing.

DC, do yourself a favor and get a set of Lone Wolf Sticks...they
are a great product. 90% of the time I use 4, but with the
occassional 'awkward' tree I'll use 2 or 3 and a handful of screw-ins.

They are lightweight, simple to use, quiet, and most of all,
SAFE.

Each summer I always touch mine up with a fresh camo
paint job, helps 'em "disappear" on the tree.

Not all strap ons are created equal, they come in all varieties from cheap-o ones with plastic that is to brittle, to really well made ones.

I use some called SteppLadder and they are awesome. basically no weight limit, and once you get use to attaching them are very quick and quiet. One of the benefits is that you can stand with both feet on one step, which makes hanging the stand easy.

The newer kinds like summit steps look interesting as well.
