Ok guys, this should be fun. In your own opinions, which food source is the best to bowhunt in your area? Acorns, persimmons, apples, corn, beans, wheat, clover, etc.
For me, I love to bowhunt over an acorn tree that is dropping so hard you can't even hear yourself think.

I do not think I have ever hunted a food source. I get as close to the beds as possible. No matter what they are doing during the night their gonna have to come by me sooner or later.
All my woods are acorn ridden, and there are no crops around me. They just meander around and pick them acorns up.

Peanut Butter! But as you know those fields are hard to find.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
It is without a doubt a seasonal thing, but a corn field offers everything in the way of food and shelter.

here in mid-southern Illinois it is a toss up between corns and beans. there are so many fields that have corn and beans in them that it is not easy to pinpoint the field that the deer are using. There is also so many oak-hickory forests (90% of the wooded habitat in Illinois is oak-hickory)that acorns are also abundent.
I guess that is why our deer are so healthy, for now, CWD is just to the north. West nile virus is everywhere. nothing is without risks or worries anymore.

Here in GA deer will be on the persimmons and in the alfalfa early in the season, then as the days shorten and the oacks begin dropping the acorns, you definitely switch to them. Seems they prefer the Northern White Oaks and Chestnut Oaks, then the Northern and Southern Red Oaks over any of the Water Oaks or Pin Oaks. However, no one has mentioned the steady browse of honeysuckle. We always see the deer munching on that stuff year round!

Well the best thing that i put out would be my Deer Cocain, but the best food source would have to be Corn. If i dont have any corn my second choice is good thick clover.
