RE: Poll ? Which is hardest to kill?
According to the things ive killed the turkey is harder to kill. They have VERY good sight and can hear very well. But deer do have a good sense of smell, which turkeys cant do. But i would say that turkeys are the harder game to kill.

Three years deer hunting =3 deer
Seven years turkey hunting = 0 turkeys If guns kill people... Pencils cause spelling errors... Cars cause people to drive drunk... And spoons made Rosie O'Donnell fat. |
RE: Poll ? Which is hardest to kill?
I'd say Whitetail.

RE: Poll ? Which is hardest to kill?
I am truely surprised that so many of you find it more difficult to kill a turkey than any deer much less a mature buck. When I say turkey that includes jakes or hens also. I am seriously considering hunting turkeys with a rock next year. So lets do it this way. Which is harder to kill a boss tom or a 4 year or older buck?

RE: Poll ? Which is hardest to kill?
I too have found more success hunting deer than turkeys. I hunt both with equal amounts of effort but I have yet to take a turkey. Every time it looks like I'm going to bag one, something happens that changes my luck. Doggone birds get the best of me everytime.

RE: Poll ? Which is hardest to kill?
Since deer numbers are so high, and bag limis have changed deer are easier to kill. On the other hand, if you were to ask me whether taking the dominant buck on a property vs. an old boss gobbler. I would think I have a better chance at the tom. Bottom line deer are smarter.

RE: Poll ? Which is hardest to kill?
Harder to kill a 4.5 year old buck or a boss Tom.......hmmmmm.....no question, a mature buck is IMO by far much harder to kill. I turkey hunt every year and am by no means an expert, it is just something for me to do in the "off season". The last 3 years I've killed gobblers with 10-12 inch beards weighing 20-23lbs. I know guys that are idiots in the woods that kill nice birds every year. Now I know an idiot can shoot a nice PY buck once in a blue moon, but not year in and year out unless maybe he is rifle hunting a fenced in ranch somewhere. I don't think turkeys are that smart but rather are just spooky and scared feces"less".

WHITETAILS...no doubt. Like they say, if turkeys could smell..... we'd never kill one.

RE: Poll ? Which is hardest to kill?
Hmmm, for you guys that think shooting a old boss gobbler is easy, you should try it in PA, where the birds are pressured so much that most of the time the boss gobblers head the other way when you call to them.

RE: Poll ? Which is hardest to kill?
Hunting in NJ and MD, I'd rank a Tom with a young doe, certainly not comparable to a mature buck. May take you a day or three at the most to bag a particular Tom without other pressure, about the same as targeting a particular doe. Not even close to a mature buck, or even a mature doe.
