Just a thought. But what if he was running by the tree. The right side of his rack struck that smaller tree. It spun him around and he got wedged. Hope that makes sence. It worked in my mind anyway.

That is really sad to see such a nice buck die in such a way. At least his death will be remembered since it was so unique. In a local paper a few years back someone found a doe in a similar position. There was a large tree with a smaller one growing out of the base exactly like in this situation. It jumped between the trees, the front made it but the back legs did not and it get wedged at the waste in the tree and probably starved to death. It was a very interesting and sad situation, very unique. Nature can throw some strange things at ya!

ditto what everybody else is saying, i have found and freed deer from fences, found them dead with no evidence of what had gone wrong, so your picture really dosen't surprise me, but it is a shame for such a wonderful animal to die in what appears to be an strange situation and a first for me. but i see em all the time on the side of the road, btw i helped a women monday night that had hit a deer, she was so shook up, i let her use my cell phone to call home, turns out they own some acrage, they don't hunt but are really tired of the deer eating their garden, i will be in touch

Wow, what a rack. It's hard to see a big guy go that way.

Think of it this way, maybe he was fighting with an even BIGGER buck and that buck somehow threw him in there. Highly unlikely, I was just looking for the silver lining.
