Who here strictly bowhunts?
I would like to see who here only bowhunts.
I have a feeling theres quite a few:) |
RE: Who here strictly bowhunts?
i strickly bowhunt. well, i hunt during gun season, but use my bow. are you still considering that strickly bowhunting?
|
RE: Who here strictly bowhunts?
Next season I will be completely bow. I picked up a gun on two days this year and very much disliked the results.
I chatted with my old man and he could care less what I hunt with. When we get together I'll have my bow in hand. |
RE: Who here strictly bowhunts?
bowhunting is my number 1 passion but I do like to go hunting with rifle with my father its kind of a family thing. and if I don't get one in the couple of days when we go out its back to hunting with my bow. he usually tags out in muzzleloader season and during that time I carry my bow when we go out together.
|
RE: Who here strictly bowhunts?
For deer, 95% bowhunter, I have taken my bow during rifle season but I have also carried my rifle but usually don't need to.:D I turkey hunt with both, shotgun and bow and both are very rewarding. I have also carried my bow during late flintlock season but I have in turn carried my flintlock.....but I favor the bow in all applications.

RE: Who here strictly bowhunts?
I have only hunted with a gun about 4 times. That was actually my first exposure to hunting. I never hunted with a bow before then so I had nothing to compare it with. Once I picked up the bow, I was truly hooked.
I live in Suffolk County NY and it is bow only except for like a two week shot gun season in December (I don't usually go as it is weekdays only). I am strictly a bow hunter at this point. I haven't ventured upstate for rifle season in over 5 years. (the only thing I miss is the experience of being away from home and the comradarie) There's nothing like bowhunting though IMHO. |
RE: Who here strictly bowhunts?
Count me as another one. I had a real nice Remington Model 7400 calibered for 30-06 that only had a handful of shots fired through it, and I ended up selling it about four years ago because I knew I'd never go in the deer woods with anything but a bow again.
|
RE: Who here strictly bowhunts?
I have been strickly bowhunting more than 20yrs.
|
RE: Who here strictly bowhunts?
I strictly bowhunt. Next year I hope to take 4 deer in IN and MI by 4 different ways - recurve, longbow, compound and crossbow. Lofty goal but possible.
|
RE: Who here strictly bowhunts?
I've been strictly bowhunting for 15-20 years now.
|
RE: Who here strictly bowhunts?
Bowhunt only for deer and turkeys. I do use a shotgun for pheasants, grouse and quail.
|
RE: Who here strictly bowhunts?
Bow only for deer. Shotgun for turkey and waterfowl.
I haven't become proficient enough with the bow yet to take it to the marshes.:D:D |
RE: Who here strictly bowhunts?
I shot one deer with a gun in 1988 and tried bow hunting the following year and never looked back. I guess that makes it 16 years now (damn, getting old). I will be bow only on any big game I ever decide to pursue including turkey. I did shoot one rabbit last year with a shotgun but I like the idea of using only the bow on small game as well.
|
RE: Who here strictly bowhunts?
I strictly bowhunt for everything but upland birds and waterfowl.
|
RE: Who here strictly bowhunts?
I am Strickly A Bowhunter Only:)
Although I did go out on the 2nd Illinois Shotgun Season with my husband so I could Video Tape him getting a Deer with his Muzzelloader.... and I did shaperon my son when he was smaller on his First Muzzleloader deer hunt ( he was Muzzleloader hunting not me ) I gun Hunted once when I was dateing a Sheriff and he introduced me to gun hunting back in the 1980's......... but never really caught the Hunting Bug until I was introduced to Bowhunting by my husband ...... now I am a Bowhuntingaholic ;) |
RE: Who here strictly bowhunts?
I bowhunt 99.8% of the time. However, I have gun hunted a couple of times in the last 5 years so I can't say that I strictly bowhunt.
|
RE: Who here strictly bowhunts?
Bow only for all big game thus far! I'll take the .243 out for Coyote & Fox. This year I think we're going to try bow with a rifle back up for yotes. Shot gun for Pheasant, Partridge, Ducks, and Geese. Haven't hunted Fox for a few years because theres hardly any around!
|
RE: Who here strictly bowhunts?
I only big game hunt with a bow, I don't own a rifle. Never saw the need. But for those of you that do rifle hunt also, have fun with which ever toy you play with.

RE: Who here strictly bowhunts?
As of right now I am 100% bowhunter.
Next year I might shotgun hunt if I am allowed to go where my dad goes. But as of now and for the last 12 years, only a bow. |
RE: Who here strictly bowhunts?
Bow only, 25 years now.
|
RE: Who here strictly bowhunts?
As of this year, I strictly bow hunt.
|
RE: Who here strictly bowhunts?
bow only, going on 3 years
|
RE: Who here strictly bowhunts?
Bow is all I've done in the last 13 years. If you can't get close, let'em walk. Seen some nice deer a ways out and NEVER wished I had a rifle. I just wished I was closer.............
|
RE: Who here strictly bowhunts?
I dont even own a gun.
|
RE: Who here strictly bowhunts?
You mean guns are used for hunting not just for sporting clays or just having a blast?
Bow hunter only for 15 years. Is it interesting that three members of the Elite 8 team are only bow hunters. I suspect more of our team is as well.:) |
RE: Who here strictly bowhunts?
This is season no. 4 that I havent used a gun at all.
|
RE: Who here strictly bowhunts?
So far I'm bow only for 2 years. I still enjoy shooting guns and have considered getting a Thompson Center Encore pistol and using it for a few hunts. Rifle hunting is no longer enough of a challenge for me, but I still like shooting. I'm thinking maybe pistol hunting will fill the gap.
|
RE: Who here strictly bowhunts?
2004 started my 48th year. March I took a Buffalo, Sept. a Fallow Buck, Oct. a Whitetail Doe (holding out for a good Buck now) & a hog while our gun season was going on this past week. I have yet to buy a Bigame gun tag thou I have no problems with those that do.

Here in Illinois bow only for deer so far my third season. Although I just bought my first shotgun and will go next year. Rifle at my in-laws in Miss. I've been so close but no cigar to getting anything yet. I'm hoping this weekend that'll change.

RE: Who here strictly bowhunts?
Bow only here as well. Took up hunting last year- '03 after a 20 year hiatus and decided I enjoyed the bow more. Have yet to be successful but still trying and enjoying it.
|
RE: Who here strictly bowhunts?
No way for me. I respect all the answers above, and I love to go try with my bow during bow season, but when I don't fill the tag - out comes the rifle for opening day. I love seeing, stalking and hunting antelope and mulies at a distance in the wide open country. BUT - no more rifle elk hunting. Elk herd up and therefore so do the rifle hunters.
Nice post and answers. |
